66 New Yorker 5.7 ZF8HP Swap Thread

He used a 727, they bolt up to the 5.7. I would assume the trans tunnel on this New Yorker needed alot of work to accomodate the 8 speed auto.

By no means can I take credit for this my good friend knocked this car out of the park.

So the tunnel was cut in a H Pattern and filleted open about a 2 inch strip down the center was added. All unnecessary tabs beret cut off the trans. Still fits the factory carpet! The only picture I have of the tunnel looks like it was taken with a potato. Next time it’s up I’ll get a better picture.

The transmission is a tight fit for sure but that modern 8 speed is so nice!

Ya, the 8spd is 9" tall at the back, very different shape

Being able to put that 8-speed behind even an LA or Magnum would likely make a huge improvement.
