I have a '66 Newport and am having issues with my turn signals. I flip the lever on and as soon as I begin the turn, the lever "returns" just enough for the signals to stop flashing but doesn't completely cancel. Once the turn is complete and the steering wheel begins to return to center, that's when I hear the cancel "click" and the lever itself returns to it's original position. I've replaced the cancelling switch but I get the same results with both. Anyone have any ideas?? TIA

Are there any small springs in the mechanism which might have broken?

Many times, there are two springs, one for each direction, which make the "click" and self-return the lever to the center position.

Just some thoughts,

I will have to take a look at that. I'm not sure if there are or not. That would make sense since both sides do it. Thank you for the info.
