hello all! so just started working on getting my moms 67 fury 1 stopping again :BangHead: which has been a pain i decided to go completely through the brake system to an extent so i replaced the wheel cylinders and just bought a new master cylinder today. after taking the old one off i noticed that the plunger stayed on the brake pedal ive tried to pull and see if it had a retaining ring but no such luck has anyone else experienced this? heres a video of the problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCjC8nQ3BLE

Looks like the brake pedal push rod has corroded and fused itself to the master cylinders bore. Need to soak it in some penitrating oil like Pb blaster and free it. Spray it real well and see if you can get it to turn and pull off.

There's a rubber ring that retains the piston to the push rod. In a perfect world, it just pulls off with a good tug.

Since it's not a prefect world, what I have done is to get my vice grips and crush the old piston a few times until it breaks apart. There should be a new rubber ring with your new mc.

Thanks for the quick replies! Tried using to box open end to pry by pulling up on the brake pedal just ended up in tools hitting the floor I only have some wd40 I'll try that

So I attached a pipe wrench to the rod behide the plunger just closed enough to let the rod slide but not the plunger and it popped right off now I have to bleed everything and she should stop again :)

Two words, cutoff wheel.

Banana peel it, two cuts one each side.

I gave up trying to pull them out years ago, know others have no problems with them, not me.
