The gas tank is covered in undercoating which was used in excess on Imps for sound deadening and up by the engine? It wouldn’t take long for a leaky rear main to make things look like that.

Well good because it’s really not anything to get upset over.

What is it with sellers that they can't do basic detailing on their interiors. I'd penalize his price just for not having the car vacuumed and the mats placed correctly. As you can tell a vacuumed car and floor mats being clean is a very, very big deal with me. A clean car is a joy to drive while a dirty car feels like crap to drive.

Question - if the Imperial was the top of the line car for Chrysler in 1967, where is the passenger side mirror? This is a huge boat...apparently you don't change lanes. Rear heat option but no mirror?

It was optional and pretty useless, mine has it.
Were they standard equipment on Lincoln’s and Caddy’s?

My LeBaron has a passenger mirror, but just like Matt's, it's pretty much useless. I don't believe they had a passenger remote mirror this year. Only the driver side.
The rust on the frame is just because it's been sitting in my opinion.

The interior is the key to judging the mileage on these. If it had 150k on it, that interior would be pretty rough.

If it was on the right coast and didn't have another iron in the fire, I'd be all over it.

My 1966 Fleetwood Brougham doesn't have a mirror on the passenger side, and the driver's side mirror is pretty small! Good thing with the old cars is you can see all four corners, nothing like the newer cars!

Mmm, how many miles on this interior? Have another at 200,000 that would stun you.

That's gorgeous, but I'm talking in the average case... most times these interiors looked like crap at about 100k.

Also depends of the Quality of fabrics used. A German FoMoCo interior of that vintage used without seat covers for example would not survive that nicely, this was some very thin glossy material that usually ripped apart at the seams and developed holes at the most stressed spots.

Look at this Imperial vs the one in Minnesota. Basically same money but for many reasons the Le Baron is the one to pursue unless something negative as a deal breaker happens.

Let you in on a hint. When I bought the car in 2004 it had clear vinyl over all the seats as in the '60s. The second owner bought the car that way from the first owner and left it that way through his kids growing up. When I bought it I took the now brownish looking vinyl off and that is what was under. The 200,000 mile interior in in the 91 Mazda and it looks just as pristine throughout with no vinyl. Reason clearly was it was tough stuff.

Of course, I am not an average car owner.

Well thats cuz you take care of your cars... not everyone else does. Not to mention the materials in a '91 are completely different than the stuff our vintage Chryslers were made of. The plastics and cloths were never "Engineered" to last that long.(Planned obsolescence comes to mind)
100k was a milestone and was bragged upon by the owner.
