Finally got rid of my old chrome mags and got plain black steelies. I got various junkyard ones and they were wobbly, more pitted, etc. than I thought, not really useable in current state, so I finally just resold 'em and got 15" Wheel Vintiques from Summit despite the warnings. $93 each with free shipping, and I was going to spend more than that on redoing old ones. The classic car shop I have been going to and have talked up in other threads (Great Hills Automotive, Austin TX) said these wheels were much better than other WVs they have seen in the past, said WV must be using better mfg techniques or quality control or something.

I am actually starting to prefer the plain steel without the dog dishes and might just run it that way. I know some of you will be horrified by the white letter tires and no caps because C bodies are supposed to be whitewall luxury liners or some other rule, but I just like it and the meaner, more stripped-down look seems to get more comments. I get a lot of younger guys who are normally into the big alloys saying "holy **** that thing looks badass!"

Also put in new Mity Mounts. They are not full poly like the Shumachers but somewhere in between stock and poly and considerably cheaper at $129/set. Holy crap, first time I started it I thought there was something wrong with the 383... I was so used to the rotted out marshmallows it was mounted on before I never felt any vibrations before. I can't imagine how it feels when you're running full poly mounts. Getting used to it now and it just feels tighter and more alive. With the new mounts in i opened the secondaries all the way for the first time in many years and couldn't get the smile off my face!

Sorry, accidentally put one pic in twice and can't figure out how to remove. It only shows up once in the edit window

Thanks everyone. They are 15x6 with 235/70s. I like the way a narrow rim makes a medium width tire like that look a little fatter.

Horrified. Count me in the C body traditionalist category. Are your new mounts of the poly lock variety? I've never heard of them before.

Mr C, I suspected you would not approve! We all have our preferences. I have never liked whitewalls on anything except wide whites on early 60s and earlier cars. I love mayonnaise. I dislike most cats. I love Texas bbq. I don't like hot wings or ribs because there's just too much effort required to get not much meat off 'em. Glorious diversity of humanity, etc etc etc.

The mounts are from Dynatech in Alabama:

They are rubber but enclosed so they supposedly won't tear as easily as the stock ones. The theory sounds good and they sure feel solid; we'll see how they work out. Dynatech seems to have a good warranty (lifetime) and have been responsive and helpful so far. Will let everyone know if something happens.

Yes, variety is the spice of life! Thanks for the info. They are not poly locks but a through bolt design...should last a long time.

Car looks great!!! I like the caps though... Maybe some police vented caps??

A buddy back up north installed poly mounts in his super bee. He hated em! Said it felt like he installed solid mounts. They softened a little over time, but still a little much for a driver.

I'd love to get some vented caps. The price is the problem. I'm seeing them for $200-300/set!

Looks amazing and BAD To The Bone with or w/o the dog dishes .. I prefer it w/o though

That looks fantastic and a little better than fantastic with the caps.

I agree. Looks good either way, a little better with the caps. Still minimalist, just a little more.... finished.

Badassed both ways. Only comment I'd make for without, paint the hubs.

Good point, it doesn't look good to have the rust colored accent in the middle of the black. :) Especially on the rears. Or... does anyone make a center cap for regular steelies like this? Not a snap-on cap, which I have, but a small center cap where the wheel holds it against the hub.

Those look fanatastic! Love the dog dish and RWL's! White walls are for chicks and old dudes :icon_tongue: LOL! j/k...I dont mean to offend chicks or old dudes. Can you enlighten me to the "warnings" you mentioned in the OP? I plan on ordering a set of 15X8 with 4.5" back spacing for mine from Wheel Vintiques for the rear and running a set of vintage torque thrusts up front for that "super stock" vibe.
