69 300 conv project....

Here goes Jezabelle.... Off to the plastic surgeon, (metal shop), for some badly needed nips & tucks. A couple of weeks and she will be rock solid again.....

Again I hope you can find the metallic crimson red color and not the color the car has now....

Good luck

You said Boot snaps...........

SO I DID....!!!!
One of the things I like about this forum is the information avaliable.

This car came to me with a White boot in beautiful condition. The seller said he thought the top had been replaced over 15 years ago, with little use since. (still in excellent condition). The boot has attaching snaps with coresponding snap retainers screwed into the moldings along the rear and sides of the top well, just like my 65 Coronet 500 conv. I never gave it a second thought.
After you questioned the boot snaps I took a look at the pic's I shot of another 69 300 conv near me and sure enough.... NO BOOT SNAPS....!!!

SO... Being somewhat of a purest, I'm faced with ....Do I locate replacement trim moldings, (very diffacult), and replace the nice boot I have....? All very expensive.
Since my pot metal side moldings are already in the chrome process, (snap holes and all), and the boot I have is so nice i'm going to stick with the snaps for now. This car is being built as a driver and not for the show field.

Question.... When were the snaps deleted in favor of the clips on C-bodys....?

There were only clips from the start. Reproductions or refurbishments mostly have those damned snaps, because the snaps are difficult to get and are just being reproduced since a couple of years!

I have mine boot top being fixed last year because some clips were broken and the rubber profile was torned. I bought the snaps at https://www.legendaryautointeriors....l_allcatalog2.aspx?class=CB&year=69&desc=clip. They are for a B-body, but will also fit a C-body top boot. So snaps off and clips on!

convertible boot.....

:urkidding:

The boot with the clips is a much cleaner look. legendary offers a replacement boot with the clips installed... but at $275.00 + postage..! Then theres the problem of the holes already drilled into the moldings for the snaps on my car. I would need to locate a whole set of moldings to fix that...(Anybody know of some...?)
My 65 Coronet has the snaps and the boot has a sewn in cover over them so they do not show when installed, kinda nice.
I really don't mind seeing the snaps.... It's kind of a convertible thing...! Like the plastic windows they just add to the character of the car.

My car will be viewed at several cruise-in's and local shows as well as on road trips through out the year and I will be willing to bet that 99.875% of the folks who see it will never know the snaps are incorrect. I can live with that.

Do you have a plastic window?

Plastic rear windows were the norm until at least 66. Not sure about 67/68, but 69 up was glass.

The point I was making is that boot snaps and plastic windows are two characteristic's that make the early ragtops what they are. (Several were built before 1969). I feel that some of that early ragtop character was lost with the hidden snaps and glass windows, however convienent they are.

Of course this is the opinion of a guy who remembers the convert's from back in the day and just wishes I could sometimes:ufo: go back there.....

Nice 66 300................!!!!!!
The change over from plastic to glass rear windows in Mopar convertibles came from 1966 to 1967.
The tops folded different also, so a 67 glass window won't interchange with a 66 without changing the entire top frame.

Jazabelle's back on track....

Here goes Jezabelle.... Off to the plastic surgeon, (metal shop), for some badly needed nips & tucks. A couple of weeks and she will be rock solid again.....

Well...... A couple of weeks turned into almost four months. But Jazabelles back....!!!!!!! And sporting a complete new hand made trunk floor, new metal at the bottom of both front fenders, new metal at both rockers and rear 1/4 panel lowers. And needed repair to the sail panel between trunk and top trim. No more filler in sight now. (Four months to do 72 hours work..... Gave me a lot of time to devote to all the needed detail work).

Now I only need to get through the paint process. I plan on detailing the underhood area before going to the paint shop. After that it will be back on my schedule so things will get done in a more timely manner..... Daytona Turkey run ...or bust...!

Great work! No problem with taking your time and doing it right the first time.

The trunk pan is a rough copy. I am afraid they 'forgot' the (very important) horizontal and diagonal grooves. Is this pan strong enough for the side forces? I also miss the drain holes.

Do I see bad welding/finishing in right upper corner?

Good luck with the finishing.

Hey, congrats! I bet it's good to have it back and it looks great!

The trunk looks perfect! Great job.
We don't need no stinking 99 point "correct" restos 'round here. None of us show at Pebble Beach or Amelia Island...

Perfect? I would say fair! You should know that the grooves have a function, otherwise you could just have placed a plain metal sheet. I am wondering now how your trunk pan looks like...

It's very easy to criticize another man's work doing an extremely difficult job working with unobtainium after simply writing out a check for a perfect car.

My 300... Love it or leave it...

Perfect? I would say fair!

NO..... I would say perfect....!!!
Stronger then the original, holes will be located and drilled. I have the correct "spatter" trunk paint to apply and a mat will cover everything.

I do not submit my cars to judging...... period.... And will not accept any trophys if offered. My car is my trophy. Take it or leave it.....!!!!!!
