69-70 fury police instrument cluster on ebay

Whatchu mean had Kemosabe? You build ah playpen that will hold 9 C-Bodyz plus partz?

I was 20 years old then Jer... back then I think we all presumed junk yard cars would be there forever. I didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. I couldn't be worried about preserving those 9 junk cars. I had trouble preserving the one I was driving

Kinda like me at the same age Dave. When I first hit the yards there were lots, not thousand of cars but they were plentiful and there were cars from the 50's and earlier 60's and some had earlier cars. That all changed all of the sudden in about 1990-1 where I was at. Lot's of yards with lots of cars then they were all gone.

Guys .. not **** mind you .. from New Jersey and PA were coming down and with big car haulers and buying up the B bodies I was looking at.

there were about 5 yards I frequented and all of the sudden they were mostly empty of Mopars, not much longer they were fields.

The "old" yards dried up here around 15 years ago...yep, not really all that long ago. If I had only considered it then ....

same here. all the old timers died off and their "kids" who were in their 50s-60s wanted no part of it. call the crusher and enjoy their retirement.

Actually, wasn't it the gum'mint, EPA, environmentalists, and all that crap?
nope. the yards were grandfathered in. many of them were there from after world war II. one just closed 3 years ago. the owner was 92 and still working every day. problem was his son was already retired and the grand kids were in their 40s. another one closed about 10 years ago. owner was in his eighties. son ran it part time for awhile until his mother died then crushed everything.

just found this

I agree with this. The yards that closed up here were old timers with only a few helpers or none at all. There are still yards here , mostly U pull it's and company based. You don't deal with the owner...

I enjoyed getting to know the owners of the yards I went to and talking to them about cars ... most had seen and done some cool stuff. One guy was still driving a late 70's pickup with a 440+6 engine and carbs from a wrecked V code Challenger.

Those were the golden days of junk yards for me

Park your car in the muddy, oil soaked, area by the 12' high gate, walk in unquestioned by anyone, employees one step removed from Neanderthals sorting, piling, stacking, moving, stripping, extracting, and torching. Walk around in mud looking at the plethora of near new 60's sedans that wrapped themselves around a telephone pole passing by all the 6's and 283's hoping one might be a 348. Finally finding an Edsel with a 3 speed crunchbox to put in your Crestliner which was a moot point to begin with because you would never get that Crestliner registered anyway...

The last of the old ones just sold his lot last year. Went to him for a quarter century. He used to ask to identify old disassembled Body parts, then had the marque put on by one of his emplyees with hair raising orthography. I still can see him Standing on a pile of junk near the entrance taking a piss in front of every custumer coming in. What a character. ;)

Everything is already crushed and new stock coming in is crushed right on.

You can determine how Long it takes till the engine blows up. ;)

Out of stock....... Did someone just buy it....?

And that's why things SHOULD NOT be posted on the board. Too many lurkers benefiting from the loyals.

Cars and parts alike get scooped off by someone else other than the guy who it was intended for or who really wanted / needed it

Still have an old school yard in Western MA. Two brothers owned it but the older one passed away. Tough guy to deal with, I remember walking up to the trailer with a carb linkage that I had removed. He asked me what car I took the linkage from then told me I had to put it back, he had plans to fix the car. This kind of thing would happen a lot with him, a month later you could grab the same part and buy it, just depended on his mood.

No big deal Jim, stuff happens.
But Dave's right, There are a lot more "lurkers" here then active members and they will snatch up a deal right out from under you. I think Julian lost out on a 69 Imperial coupe that way.
If you come across something that you know or think a member might be interested in, a PM works much better. Or a listing without the contact.

Most of us have learned that the hard way.
