I have been looking at these trying to figure out a few things. The problem is I can’t find the ones off of my red parts car so it is hard for me to see how they were before painting them.

Here is what I have figured out.
They appear to have been painted on the car, on my green car that is still original I could see this when they were taken off.
It looks like they were painted with a green primer prior to being put on the car, if I could find my red ones I could better tell.
What I can not figure out is weather the bracket was on the car when it was painted, of the three I have none have what looks like overspray on them, (green or black).
These are in a place that would probably get paint on the backside when painted.

So if somebody has looked into this already or has an original unrestored one they could look at I would appreciate the information. I would love to see one from some color like red that would be pretty definitive. So if you have a parts car or a project that you can see these and check that hat would be great.

Thanks,

They can be seen if you look but not enough to make a big deal about but would like to know. I have a plan B

Thanks, I guess what through me is that these were on the car when painted but the bracket doesn't have overspray on it in a area that would typically see overspray. They used a caulk like sealant on these and that probably held them in during paint withe retainers being added later. Looking at my other car I can see how the overspray could get in there but it would be minimal.

I plan on painting the backside of these with green etch primer and detailing the hardware prior to installation. I do need to expand the overspray as it currently doesn't reflect what probably would have been done at the factory. The core support was attached to the fenders at the time of painting at the factory and in order to paint the core support the area of this would have seen overspray.

This may not be a high dollar restoration I want to have the illusion of one.

I find it interesting that there is no overspray on the backside of the housing, I can see the bracket being added later.

Well I have them painted and installed, I'll be adding the reflectors later as we are going to a final polish later.

Even with the grill installed this is about what is seen.
