i saw this car today.
when i saw it 8yrs ago i thought the vinyl top was green, but it turns out it was a very stained white top.
my friend who hauled the car 2 mos ago to where it is now said the vinyl top was "puffy" in places then.
i have way more questions in my head than answers about this car after talking with the seller and then talking with other people who know what the story is.
he has spent a huge amount of time and effort cleaning the car.
he removed the white vinyl top and primered the roof.
front and back glass was removed and metal "repaired".
if it was mine 1st thing i would would want to do is pull the glass out, strip the roof to bare metal and redo the work to make sure it was done properly.
the body & trim is very straight, the floors are good and trunk seems solid - some pin holes but nowhere as bad as i was expecting, i was pleasantly surprised. there is no gas tank so it was easy to see.
some small bubbling in lower rear 1/4 and some rust in left front fender behind the wheel above the trim molding.
only options i can see are the front discs, am radio, rear defogger, rear speaker, tinted glass and air cond - which is auto temp.....
the seller says he hasnt tried to start the car and deliberately doesnt have a battery in the car so people wont try to start it.
i asked if the headlight doors work properly, i was told "they open".
the car is jacked up because the left rear tire goes flat.....
the left rear brake is stuck....
i find it very strange that so much time would have been spent cleaning and removing the top but no time would have been spent trying to start it or at least changing the tire and freeing up the brake.
he said if it was running he would want $6500 for it.
i said i didnt agree with that.
he asked if i would pay his $3500 asking price if i was interested, i said no.
i think even in cdn$ costs will add up very quickly with this car.
too much for a fairly basic 300 with autotemp....
the seller is known to have a long history of working at some of the sketchier used car dealers in town.
i didnt get a direct answer from him that its his, but later i found out that he is selling it for the guy who owns it - who is the guy who owned it when i saw it 8 yrs ago.
my gut is telling me they couldnt get it running because of electrical probs probably related to years of having a damp interior. i could be wrong though.
it wouldnt be a bad thing for a local buyer but anyone off island is going have added costs
