And you let it get RUINED! Shame on you Steve!:mad::rofl::mad::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

The guy would have never got that car from me if I had any idea he was going to change the color - the worst sale I ever made when he sent me a new photo of the car in BROWN!!!! Just horrible. :elmer::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

1978 NYB, I believe that is someones car that I met once in Carlisle 2016. He has a white on white on white GT 440 too. Not sure though.

furyman, The owner of the B5 blue GT does not say it has a vinyl top. I also do not see any trim or as you said "ghost" trim around the lower back window. So most likely it is not a vinyl top car.

saforwardlook. Now that you mention it, it does for some reason look like an 8. Maybe because, the photo is a cut off or a little fuzzy/blurry. How can it be though, If it's V something X, I would think it's 1 for vinyl top or 6 for stripe. Never heard of an 8. By the way, I love the Polara, It's a shame that you sold it. However, it's great that you have a 70 SFGT. Could you tell me more about it?

From my decoder.............

V1# means vinyl top and the # means the letter that goes there denotes the color. X would be black for example. This car never came with a vinyl top
V6# means logitudinal stripe and the # denotes the color - again X would be the color, black
V8# means transverse stripe and the # again denotes color

So this car has a transverse stripe, black in color.

V1 does denote vinyl roof in general, but in this case V6 and V8 denote the stripes that were optioned.

My 1970 SFGT is B7 blue with blue interior but needs a complete restoration. But it is highly optioned (a/c, buckets, console, no vinyl roof, am/fm stereo and more). It has no rust at all except some surface rust (paint gone) so that part of the restoration is not a problem. It came from Nevada, so that explains the paint that is burned away and the interior that is torched. I have a photo of it someplace that I can't find at the moment. But Carsten has a photo of it.

the stripes on the 1970 SFGTs is coded "V6-".
It is a so called longitudinal stripe.
A "V8-" stripe wasn't available on SFGTs.

1970 Super Bees in example came with both stripes available.
"V6-" for the C-stripe and "V8-" for the bumblebeestripe.

If this one ever had a VT it would have trim at the lower edge? And with all the paint loss I don't imagine how we'd not see a ghost from where the trim had been.

I realize this car is all complete, legitimate, rare, etc. But I think if a guy bought this car and dropped $10k in it the new shiny bits would clearly announce, versus the now-more-obvious faded bits, that he had *at least* another $10k to go. And if not done thoughtfully - it could turn like the burgundy Wash-state car?

The Burgundy WA state car is a '71 GT.

Someone could easily invest $20k or more into this Blue GT to restore it correctly unless they can do most of the work themselves. If restored correctly, it would, IMHO be worth around $35k. Most of the people restoring these cars do so because they love the car and don't worry about the cost.

Yes, the burg one was a 71.

What I meant was that the GT has become the Hemi Cuda of our crowd. Only for those with deep pockets of non-limited funding. The burg GT was an example of that, how it was criticized for not being restored correctly.

furyfan, the burgandy GT was was probably restored by Graveyard Carz. Lol. I think they've definitely gotten better over time. Anyway, I totally agree with your last post though. The Hemi Cuda, especially a 71, is the holy grail for the E-body enthusiasts. The A12 Roadrunner, Superbird or Daytona for the B -body folks is the holy grail. The Sport Fury GT is the most desirable and is the holy grail in the C-body world. Especially if it has the 440 6bbl option. It seems to me like, even if it's a cloned GT, it's still as desirable as the real thing.

Only 4 more days on the GT. Up to $6,600 now. I'm keepin' an eye on it. Got to know what it sells for.

The fender tag shows a lot of dark colors:
TX9 = Formal Black
H4XA = Charcoal and black cloth/vinyl split back bench seat
V(6 or 8)X = black stripes

I did find a couple photos of my car in its present unrestored condition. My car was made in Belvedere and is coded V01 for monotone paint. I do not have a code for the black stripe on my body code plate even though it surely has an original one on it.
