I have an opportunity to purchase a 70 Newport for a very good price. The body is roached. Both bumpers are dented very bad. The interior is shot. 383 2BBL car does not run. My question is, if I get it, which parts should I take off and sell? Sad to say, the car is to far gone to restore. I will be keeping the rims and hood for my Hurst. Is it worth my time?

Very subjective question. Here's a very subjective answer: If it spins freely and is not damaged in any significant way I'd keep the 383 & 727 tranny.

Keeping the hood for your Hurst?

I would take it apart and keep everything in 5 gallon buckets. Bolts, nuts, connectors, trim hardware, everything...

It all depends on space, time and cost.
I purchased a parts car for my first Polara and all I needed was the quarters. I dismantled it and started to cutup the body to dispose and that was when I got the CHP car, it saved me big time.

Bottom line was the car paid for itself in the first repair, everything else was just gravy.

The problem is the carcass is still in my yard (that I have ver little of).

I had anothe parts car that never made it to my house, ended up just giving it away because I had no space for a second parts car.

Unless you need the parts yourself or like doing the ebay/swap meet thing I'd just take what you need and scrap the rest.

thanks for all the feedback. If I do get the car, ill probably keep as much as I can, fenders, mirrors, door handles, jack, rims, glass, radiator. Sell the motor and trans. Scrap the carcass. Hell, for the price I think is just may be worth a few weekends of labor.

when I do the transplant, how do I keep the new hood frame from rusting like all the other Hurst hood frames?

Prior to applicate anything on the surface I'd check instructions with the product you're planning to use for glueing the fiberglass part back on. I simply have a couple of coats of filler/primer on it. The metal frame was still original and had no holes at all, from what I could see there was nothing on inside except maybe traces of black primer from a sloppy dipping process or something like that during the production process.
