Shame. I think there was a thread about this one when it caught fire. It had been a beautiful car.

I didn't remember it being so close to home. Unless you had a doner it really is just a parts car though.

Hood and nose was fine till the fire department got to it, often they cut a big triangle around the hood latch.

I saw this last night, would be a great sub-frame donor for my '73. But, uh... not to speak ill of the dead, $2800? Even at 1/2 off, what do you get? Not even a VIN tag, and it's already been "harvested"!

I think he's asking $1800 and that's not bad for a nice drivetrain and fuel system.

That was an electrical fire, correct?

But by the grace of god. After I'd buttoned up the bottom end on my old 68, I was driving it down to CT from Montreal and it started stuttering and blowing smoke out the dash... I pulled over, popped the hood, pulled the battery wires and thankfully nothing got burnt but the harness.

That there however is a heartbreaker.

It was priced at $2800 last night, so at least the guy is going in the right direction with the price.
I would think it would make someone a pretty good parts car, especially if you needed a drivetrain and a place to keep that indoors.

Thanks, I was sure I saw it at $2800.

So what electrical problems can cause a fire like that to happen - someone on FCBO also had a 70 Newport (Bob?) catch fire under the dash? Ammeter related or possibly the a/c undersized wire that gets hot and melts the plastic connectors in the wiring connectors or ?

While restoring Jazabelle I found a 69 T&T 300 convertible that had suffered a dash and under hood fire. It was a running driving car when it caught fire. Most of the front sheet metal was destroyed by the fire dept. It offered up a bunch of nice parts for my restro and what I sold went a long way in financing the project.

My 70 300 had a small meltdown under the dash about 10 years ago, went thru the firewall and out all the way to the alternator. No fire, but burned a lot of insulation on 1 wire and some neighbors. Was able to drive back home and stop it somehow (was 1/2mi from home).

I don't find out exactly where it shorted, but it was not related to the ammeter.

I don't remember all the details, but 2 things stand out in my memory:
The blue ign feed wire that runs thru the dash, out to the Vreg and alternator, has zero fusing on it.
There were a couple of errors in the FSM schematic also, or my car had been wired differently (but all looked very original).

It's a miracle the classic car insurers haven't caught on yet that offering fire coverage on 65-73 C-bodies is a losing proposition.
