Could someone tell me if the tailshaft is interchangable on a 65 and 68 tranny ? My trans mount is in a different spot.

The mount position is the only thing that changes. On a newer trans, the mounting point is about 2 inches closer to the motor. If you really want to use something newer, and you do, have a 1/4 extension plate welded to the bottom of your existing cross member mount extension ( without altering the existing one) and put in what ever tranny you wish. The plate extends completely across the underside of the extension nose plus 2 1/2 inches more. You can drill the new mounting holes fore or aft or just drill through the plate where the existing holes are. Offers up a lot of options for mounts without destroying anything. I found some of the OE mounts a bit lame and weak looking especially for side movement of the tailshaft. On some OE cross member you will notice there are two holes predrilled in the mount extension of the crossmember to accommodate different mounts that Chrysler used for various sized power trains. Some used one 5/16 bolt and others two.

Thanks for your input it!s good to have options. I would like to scrap both trannies and put a 4 speed in it but i would have a better chance winning a lottery than finding the parts i need.
