Don't worry, we don't play favourites here. When you start looking at something, we will all help you spend yours too.
Unfortunately (or not) for him, he lives a long distance from most of the rest of us, Graham's stuck in one of the larger viper's nests of c bodies in the world from what I can tell. :poke:

Laughs, after discussing it with Graham, I'm likely going to look for a 1980 New Yorker in a year or so, after my 73 is finished. They look like nice cars. Now to source brochures so i can see how they came.

Yes, i moved from Adelaide, South Australia to Christchurch, New Zealand last September. Only 14 hours away. Lol.
Shipping is a big issue as well. I was quoted around $8000 NZ (i think) to truck my 73 from Wisconsin to New York Port, box her up and ship down here. Still, it'll be worth it in the end.

Wow might it be better to ship on the Pacific side to Hawaii then down?

BTW he has a set of skirts for it and new whitewalls all around. Bob will skirts work on this car?

I think McCullough shipping probably use both coasts depending upon location of the car.

When I shipped my Ford to/from Chicago for the 2014 MCACN show it arrived in Long Beach then was trucked "Reliable Carriers" to Chicago. After the show, due to the California dock workers strike, Reliable trucked it to NYC then it ended up on the Singapore docks until the ship to Adelaide arrived.
Car left Adelaide in September 2014, arriving home February 2015.

Approx time from you to me is 10 weeks. Will inquire what happens if I buy the New Yorker in Canada. I presume it could be trucked to the US port of departure thus avoiding hassles over ha ving to insure and register it to use on US roads.

You'll need the plastic brackets and special wing bolts that hold the skirts on. I'm going to guess that the hook for the front of the skirt will already be on the car. To finish it off, you would want to replace the Newport wheel opening mouldings on the front fenders with New Yorker mouldings. They should be easy to find. They are stainless, not aluminum, so they hold up real well.

But, but, but,
The Newport instrument panel...

Plenty of those out there. I think I have at least one extra. But if it starts squeaking after the first patch of rough road, he may want to put the Newport trim back on. I think I fixed my squeaking by putting electrical tape on the metal clips and new foam tape on the back of the center panel that goes around the speedo.

Ok as I am not a Formal guy by experience just by memory from the 70’s why is it do you suppose that this car has these Newportisms? Wheel lip openings instrument panel etc to what end or is this a Canuck car thing?

For me its the colour combination. Love a white car with red leather...he hasn’t shown any underhood pics so that’s a concern. Says it only has 41000 kms? Or 41000 miles? 1977 was the year we went metric so I am guessing its in kilometers but I can’t tell from the dash (eyes not sharp enough) ...paging @commando1 @cantflip whats your take on it?
It's a 78... I say go for it... but as Stan said, the instrument panel is wrong. Being a 78, expect to get the wiper parts from whatever car you find the IP from... assuming you don't find another 78. I'd love to see you get her, and skirts could be put on if he has the brackets.

Ya wipers and ATC II are what kept me away from Formals but seeing a certain two tone beauty in Fumbuck County kinda got under my skin. I am still on the fence about why all the Newport parts. Is it a Newport trying to be a NY or a NY put together with Newport parts. I am not sure the owner is aware of these deficiencies. Lord knows I have enough Road Wheels for it ....anyone wanna buy a 69 Spring Special Newport Vert project lol

The Newport style wheel lip mouldings are standard on the New Yorker when not equipped with the optional skirts, it's just that 98% of New Yorkers were ordered with the skirts. When you ordered skirts on the New Yorker, you got the cleaner looking front wheel opening trim that matched the w/o trim on the skirts. When you ordered skirts on a Newport, you got New Yorker w/o trim on the skirt and Newport w/o trim on the front fenders.

I think Stan has it right on the dash trim. Someone took it apart for a repair and broke the trim piece. The New Yorker trim is quite fragile, while the Newport trim is thicker plastic and will handle more abuse. Even with the low miles, it wouldn't be unusual for it to be apart. Our '78 was only five years old when we bought it, with 24K miles, and I had the dash apart several times in the following few years. First for the radio, then for the clock, then the ATC II, then the radio again some years later.

The wheelcovers probably came off of the same car that the dash piece did. The owner may have lost one of the NY'er covers or just liked the Newport ones better.

I wouldn't be too concerned with that stuff. As long as there is no rust, or very minor rust, I'd say that it's a safe bet. The guy that Gary bought his S-23 from recently sold a '76 or '77 NY'er coupe that had 35K miles on it for $6K US. Despite the low miles, it was not garaged kept, and didn't look as nice as the one you are thinking about. It was rust free and had road wheels, but the light blue metallic paint had lost it's shine, making it look like a higher mileage car. The light blue interior didn't look as fresh either, though the leather on the driver seat was probably a bit better.

And I'll never unsee this regardless of what tall tale is spun.

Yes, the chrome trim has to come off and you need the mounting hardware off a donor car.

My interpretation of rust free is a little different than this.....make sure you inspect the rear quarters.
