Yah, blame the old guy for everything. He won't remember it tomorrow anyway...

I had 2 of these at once when in high school/college, they were retired Highland Park cop cars but were nothing special. 318 2bbl traffic enforcement vehicles. Made 2 out of one and drove it till it was no longer safe to drive. I think I actually had to screw the drivers door shut because it was beat to hell and rusty but at that point I had already driven it long enough and was ready to move on.

One thing I will say about 318's---they ARE indestructible. I drove one home from college with almost no oil in it on a freezing cold winter evening years ago. Earned my respect as a tough little motor.

I said many times small block Mopar engines are powehouses. I do dislike the rear distributor placement... a major pain in the *** to me...but I could live with it. You can great mileage with a 318 and/or build tremendous power with a 340 or a 360.

Unless one day you've pulled the distributor to install a dual point distributer and that itsy bitsy #4 x 3/16" screw for the points falls down into the hole... :BangHead:

I would pull that points distributor and install an electronic ignition setup on Day 1.

The '78-'79 Lil Red Express had a 360-4V that could walk all over the brand new Corvettes of those same years. My guess is that car probably has the same 360. A buddy of mine used to have a '72 Dodge 1/2ton with a 318 4-speed combo and that truck had no problem hitting 100 mph and getting up there pretty quick. One thing he didn't like, as a matter of fact he complained about it a lot, was right after it rained, if he forgot and opened the hood it would dump all the rain water right on top of the distributor. He wanted to put an early '80's hood on it. I suggested he put a big block in it, that way the dizzy would be at the front.:laughing4: He didn't do either, instead he sold it and bought a '67 GMC 283 4-speed truck.:BangHead: Oh well.
