I'm not a doctor, but arthritis is an inflammation of bone/cartilage joints, due to cartilage damage.
I don't think I would use a hardshell seat, I would worry that it would cause more damage due to zero cushion.
Although it might be the case that you simply couldn't drive the car without pain?
