Yes, keep the 30 lb canisters cool and tightly closed!
FYI: Just adding a new R134A compressor and some hoses to a vintage car wont work well.
The old system used components for low pressure R12, not a high pressure gas.
I did an old wagon project and we replaced every AC part with new Danhard Corp. components and it worked fine.
Be advised old cars were not as well insulated and our tinted windows are not as good at UV protection as modern ones.
I also added heat shields to the dual exhaust.....the floor gets hot otherwise.
For the roof we added mylar bubble insulation.
