Alternator and voltage regulator

I have a '68 Fury III. I believe the actual power block will be the same or very similar based on what I have read. A quote from the link I posted earlier:

"The second problem is a little tougher, but solvable. There are really only two wires that carry any serious current at the bulkhead: the two that pass all the charging-system current through the ammeter (on the instrument cluster.) This fatal flaw is inherent in all Mopars built prior to 1975 (1975-1/2 for A-bodies), and, of course, shows up more readily in cars with high-current alternators and/or accessories." -- From http://www.allpar.com/history/mopar/electrical.html

As I progress on my electrical quirks I find it helps to go wire by wire. I "fixed" my horns by pulling and cleaning all the connections one by one and now I have a nice loud horn!

Good luck!!

I am in the process of doing this upgrade to mine right now! And I'm going to just run an aftermarket voltmeter to monitor the charging. Not too worried about stock look. And hopefully my new gas gauge gets here today! Don't know if I mentioned in this thread but I found a couple burned traces in the upper and lower circut boards on the dash so Saturday my mom came over and soldered up the burnt traces now I have continuity everywhere on the dash. And one of the tiny wires in the gas gauge bimetallic strip had burnt up so that's the reason for replacement. I'm going to try to fix the bad gauge so I have a spare in the future!!! Hopefully I get all these electrical issues sorted out soon because I wanna drive her!!!

Nice, good luck! Always nice when someone in the family has experience soldering.

I think I am going to go with an aftermarket voltmeter as well. I am interested in keeping it looking as stock as possible though so I am still not sure the best option. I would love to hack an aftermarket HUD like this one for a newer ODBII car: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Unive...cs&ie=UTF8&qid=1395850033&sr=1-2&keywords=hud

And make it output voltage, rpm, oil pressure, etc. I also contemplated making a bluetooth voltmeter and oil pressure gauge that would talk with my phone, of course all of this is a pipe dream for me. The idea is cool though!
