Went out to the shop this afternoon and worked on both the Imperial and the Hudson. Nearly 80* outside the day after Thanksgiving! You can't beat that, right?
Did some more sanding on the Jet, cleaned all of the windows, cleaned and polished the dashboard, sorted through some of the trim that is off the car to see if any of it is missing, polished some of the pot metal bits, and put my Hudson keys on my Doc Hudson key fob! Tomorrow, the battery is going in it, and I'll see how easily the engine turns over! Start it, maybe? I'll have to get a gallon of gas and run a line from that to the pump. I don't want to suck up any of the year-old fuel that is in it, even if it has had Sta-Bil added to it!
You know, I've owned many, many cars and trucks since I was 12 years old. None have ever had a name. Some people name their cars. I've never seen the desire or need to do that. They've always been girls, like maritime vessels and aircraft; but I've never named one. Not even the Coronet, which I've owned for nearly 38 years! The Hudson is different. Something about this Jet makes it a "Mabel" to me. The name fits the time she was built, and to me, it fits the car. So, Mabel it is!
I did some more under-dash work on the Imp. She needs a good drive and a cleaning! Last time it saw sunshine and road time was the first Saturday in July. Last week, I received a couple of bits from a guy in Minnesota that was parting a very rusty '66 coupe - a glove box lamp assembly and a perfect map light switch and bezel.
