The decklid on a Hurst is all fiberglass - even the understructure. The hood is a fiberglass top surface and metal underbracing. The decklids tend to warp due to constant torsion spring tension on it and will bow up in the middle. Given that, it probably wouldn't take that much to break it.
This is exactly the same information I was going to write.. based on the "1½" 300 Hurst I had... with the addition, that I am pretty sure that the weight of the glass fiber deck lid, is about 1½ time the standard metal one... (so much for the sporty design).
Also, I am very sure, that ALL 300 Hurst had front disc brakes, and also the "Imperial buckets" with power tracks in both sides.
I got a "set" of hood/deck lid + fender extensions in my parts collection. The hood though, is just the skin.. the metal structure was almost totally rotted away. Deck lid is complete, and almost straight, but starting to curve just a bit.. and so was the one on my running Hurst, so despite the beefy under-structure Hurst molded in glass fiber, the springs still won the battle.
Sad to see this particular one get de-VIN'ed.. with the console I mean... but then again, they keep popping up in a rate that suggest that they made 5001, and not 501 :-D
A bit of useless information: The hood skin is surprisingly flexible once it's off the metal structure, making storing it easier :-D.
