Just picked up a '65 Newport. In short it's a 40 footer with lots of little issues. Rust free and running is probably the best way to describe it. The previous owner had a cheap paint job put on it recently so it's got curb appeal but up close the flaws really show through. One of the things I was hoping to find was some pics under the hood of some other early C bodies. The PO replaced the brake booster and master and probably the line directly off the master. It looks like crap bent up to clear the subframe rail so I'd like to see what it should look like. I read through a handful of posts and will be getting in touch with Murray Park at http://www.cbodies.com/ for some of the little things and maybe some bigger items but I'm coming up short on door weather stripping.

Since everyone loves pics

Welcome to the site from the Motor City!! Love your car, more pics please.

Great ride!! For what it's worth, heres a pic of the engine compartment of my 67 Polara vert....I'll take a close up of the master cylinder are tonight when I get home.

Welcome, nice looking ride. I like the color combo.

Welcome aboard, it might be a 40 footer but it looks good in the photo. If it is rust free and runs it sounds like a great find. It seems most things are pretty straight forward to work on. I love the dark blue is that the factory color?

Ok here's a couple pics...everything is dirty but hopefully this helps. Let me know if you need a different angle.

Thank you for the welcome and the under hood pics, I guess it's not as bad as I thought. I've got a single bowl master but it doesn't look like I need to do much more than bend the line a little to keep it from rubbing on anything.

I don't think it's the original paint colors, I suspect it was an all white car but the fender tag was missing so I can't be sure. I'll have the tag remade but I'm not overly concerned about it not being original. It's going to be a driver for the kids and I to lazily cruise in around town so my main concern is the mechanical side of things.

Since I need a bunch of little parts is there a reference guide somewhere that shows part interchanges? That way when I'm looking through the for sale forum I know what I should be looking at.

As for more pics here are some of it on the trailer.

Interior is in pretty good shape but the headliner is sagging badly. That will come out this weekend to be re-glued

Not all original but good enough for me a little clean up to be done but not much else

The rear bumper has a crease in it and the gas door is a little misaligned but looking from the inside and under side the body isn't wrinkled so it doesn't look like the bumper creasing incident bothered the body.

Another ugly spot is those wire wheels. I like the look but it would appear that someone took the centers off with a pipe wrench and destroyed them. When I bought the car I was thinking I was going to change out the rims anyway so it didn't bother me but the wires are growing on me. Maybe I can find suitable centers that don't look like a bear chewed on them.

The car looks great inside and out. Maybe the build sheet is still in there, have you checked?

Nope, haven't checked for the build sheet, I just got it home this week and haven't had time to start combing through the likely spots.

back with some less flattering pics

The nightmare behind the ashtray. Only two screws were holding the ashtray in the rear brackets were bent up so they don't reach the holes in the bottom of the dash. At least half a dozen bare wires and you can see where they cut the dash and snapped it off for some reason. It's a clean cut on one side and a jagged mess in the middle. Oh and dried out duct tape on everything.

Is this a standard setup for brake lights? I've never seen something like this before also the purple wire is cut. I don't even know of the brake lights work yet because I have fuses to address first. On the left side you can see the wiring intended for an amp and speakers that must have been in the trunk at one point.

Where does the fuse box mount? I found it stuffed up under the dash And should I have both sides of the block where the missing fuse is? If so what color wires should be there on each side? I think a service manual with wiring diagrams is in my future. Again you can see the mess of wires headed for the trunk and bare wires everywhere.

Duct tape, bare leads, crappy pig tail splices--well, that says everything doesn't it....better get yourself an FSM, not telling what the PO was doing.
