Another very talented on screen personality has sadly ended his life. Someone I would have enjoyed sitting down having a beer with.

I guess with all these celebrities committing suicide it proves wealth and fame don't bring happiness.

Meanwhile Charles Krauthammer, a man who was paralyzed in college and went on to become a psychologist. He has been in pain ever since (from accounts I've read), has done all he could to cling to life, but will likely soon lose the battle.

I wonder if a difference difference in life "philosophy" is a factor.

I'd suggest, given his mother's comments, that mental illness may have played a role. Of course one also can't discount your point re the effects of living the Bohemian lifestyle as a possible factor.

Enjoy life.....

Just knew his Show casually. Just read it in the News, he's been in France near the German border, not far away from us when this happened.

R.I.P.

Bummer! R.I.P..

I could write much more on the topic, but I believe facing some amount of adversity in life gives people the ability to better discriminate "happy vs. sad". It's almost like not knowing hot without cold. Maybe Anthony Bourdain has been to hell and back, I dunno. But I think that realitive ease of success will cause people to (perhaps subconsciously), create their own adversity.

I think it's why you see (mass) school shootings in suburbs but neither the straight-up 'hood, nor Farmville USA; two places that are 180-degrees the opposite, but where the common element is that more has been expected of children since they were born... and places where sh*tty, depressing music isn't popular.

Bourdain was a "foodie" I guess, but he was especially thin - I thought I read something about heroin issues at least in the past? What did his mother say specifically were his mental health issues? A lot of people sure couldn't tell he had any issues it seems. I was very surprised to see those headlines yesterday.

Personally, I feel not having a clear purpose in life leads to depression and results like this. Deep down inside, I believe people want to know why they are here.

All I can say is the ******* left behind an 11 year old daughter for no other reason than being selfish.. *slow clap*

I guess it would be safe to say that you have absolutely no clue exactly how bad and debilitating severe depression can be. Do you think he is the only person to kill himself this week due to depression. Got news for you all many kill themselves every week due to depression. Only they aren't celebrities so you never hear of them. Suicide rates are up all over the U.S.

Sure he left a daughter behind. However, when you are in a deep dark place you are unable to think coherently which is why these people need expert help. They will not pull themselves out on their own. Therefore, I would never consider him an *******. In my 36 years of practice I have had two of my younger patients kill themselves by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. I still see the mother of one who jumped off the bridge. I know her father died a bad death due to diabetes when she was very young. Kept having parts of his feet amputated until all the way up to his knees. Passed away before 60 years old. Talk to the mother and learn first hand what reality is like.

And it's sad we only hear about it because someone is a celebrity. This isn't the only issue, either, but we all know that.

Just read that the Travel Channel will play 12 hr marathon of his show No Reservations today.

Just my opinion but I found him arrogant and often disrespectful to America and Americans in his commentary. Too many good and brave people die every day without a news story outside this website and their hometown paper.

Military Deaths

Wouldn't know him if he was sitting next to me at the bar. Shame though all the same. Now his little girl has to live with this and will probably be in therapy the rest of her life. I pray she doesn't follow in the this guys footsteps.

Bourdain was a complete bad ***. Changed up everything he touched and ripped himself to shreds doing it. In that, he spent his life tempting that abyss through extremely hard living which only exacerbates any preexisting depression.

He'd cleaned up, though clearly and back slid many times. I don't claim to know the full extent of the man's experiences nor the man himself but I do know the price of hard living through my own experiences and those of many close friends. I can't understand what drives that final decision...

Rest easy, Bourdain. Another shitty loss.
