any rat rod c-bodies out there?

Wow only took you 23 minutes to respond! :poke:

At least it would live and I'd get all the parts I needed...flat black would look cool...with a skull for a grille. :yes_no:

you can count on me if it comes to a tx9 black 70 Chrysler 300 without v-roof:congratualtions:

I guess that's sort of the difference there. I'm not talking rust bucket greaser. Just mainly not original parts. Bunch of minor aftermarket minor customizations and some obvious not stock features I.e. Peep mirrors, shaved handles, custom lights etc. Right now it looks like a rat rod wanna be simply cuz its black and its a driving project but I plan on more than blanket seat cover type fixes etc.
Welcome. Don't forget to include pics.

Ah, geez, can we please put the whole "rat-rod" fad to a screeching, friggin' halt! First off, a "rat rod' is a purpose-built POS. Made to look like crap intentionally, and usually with a bunch of crap parts, thrown together. Primer and rust holes do NOT make "patina"! That means "paint the damn car already!" Skulls, rockabilly garbage and spiderwebs are found on "rats".

TRUE patina is a well-aged and VERY presentable ORIGINAL paint job, but not yet really needing paint. A smooth and well-worn interior that is NOT worn to the springs. A clean and serviceable engine compartment, NOT a grease-pit.

A "ratrod" is something that no one should drive. They are caricatures of themselves and their owners. Most of the cars you guys have pictured (especially Ironwolf) would be considered more along the lines of a mild custom and NOT a "r--r--". Those, I DO like.

I believe I'm with you on this, Patrick. I too would prefer a word "custom" with modified c-bodies.

After all, the cars shown so far are still c-bodies...

I like this thread......"Rat Rods" or what I call now "Novelty Acts" are so 2005. A thousand people will walk by a perfect car to look at the rusty POS. I always believe in build what YOU want , not what the people want.

The term Rat Rod came from the Hot Rod world of cars that were cobbled together from missmatched parts that were laying around. Function took precedent over look and of these cars would look ratty, hence the term Rat Rod.

They were typicaly not finished and at best might be primered which led to the satin finishes.

I don't mind the satin finishes, especially with the cost of paint and body these days. At least, an effort is made to make the car ONE color, instead of traces of the original color with giant rust holes and primer spots. Most true hotrodders despise the rat rod look and many of those associated with them. To many out there in Joe Q. Public land, ALL hot rods should be banned for one or more ridiculous reasons, and the "r--r--s" out there do NOTHING to help reinforce the fact that hotrodders build safe, yet personalized cars; while most of the rats out there are rolling, dangerous JUNK.

Rat Rod : (n) 1)Donor vehicle 2)Parts car 3)Crying shame that they could not do things right.

I love the look of the Rat Rods and I have seen a lot of very nicely done examples around here(Detroit area). I think that most of them are rolling expressions of art and personality and think that it'd be a lot of fun to build one for myself one day. I think some of you are too quick to assume the guys building these didn't spend some money and put some serious craftsmanship into steering and brake systems. These cars are no more dangerous than the non modified single brake reservoir, bias ply tire having cars that roam the streets.

There are many, many, beautiful cars out there built to fall under the ratrod moniker. True works of art that belong in the Museum of Fine Art. I've stared long and hard at their beauty.

Its the other 99.8% that are on Craigslist that really should be called chitboxes.

There are bad apples in EVERY bunch.

A couple of years ago a local guy came over to buy some parts from me. Young guy. Driving a well used older Dodge Neon. Lime Green with a primered fender. Just making small talked I asked about the fender & he said ya I plan to rattle can primer the rest of the car when I get time. I said wouldn't it be cheaper, eaiser & look better to just paint the one small fender. He said he was into the rat rod primer look. So I bit my toung. Good thing. He has since come back & bought more stuff from me. Calls me a lot too.

While I do like slab sides i have never considered owning one until I saw this, I love it! Looks to have a small chop on the top, it gives it a whole new look. I would gladly sell my fusey to have this one in my garage. image.jpg
