In the late 80's, a good friend and Mopar guy had a Dodge Diplomat ex cop car that was part of his deal being a part time fire chief in the next town over from me. He had the car for personal use since he was always on call and the car was a "hand me down" from the full time police chief.
It was a decent car and all was good that way..... 318 engine etc. The car was dark blue, no markings and the emergency lights were on the dash and in the grille. But it also had the antennae on the back deck and there was no way you didn't think he was in a cop car.... Given he's a really clean cut guy too and wore a uniform shirt for his other job at the tractor parts place.... well... He looked like a cop....
He hated driving this car!! He said he couldn't get anywhere in a hurry because people were always slowing down in front of him. He hated looking like a cop!!
Best part of this.... He was an ex county sheriff!
He changed jobs and could not be on call so he resigned his fire chief job and had to give up his car. It was passed down to someone else that loved that he was driving a cop car look alike.... He got the middle finger salute from me a time or two when he thought it would be funny to harass the guy in the Roadrunner. He also didn't last long in that job and the next guys have been driving hand me down Jeeps.
