Found this Christmas morning in my shop. I don't know what I hit it with, and can't find any white paint on anything. But I damn near puked when I saw it. It has been weighing on me since. The body man came to the shop today. Estimate coming Monday. Why is it that the cars you try so hard with end up with this ****?

That stinks. I know the feeling. Back when I had a Corvette, a friend came over, tripped on his own feet and somehow kicked a folded up lawn chair into the side of the Vette. WTF? I buffed most of it out, but a deeper scratch stayed with it. Your scratch almost looks like a shopping cart got it.

But it hasn't left the shop. I can't believe I hit it with something and didn't realize it! It's down to the bare metal. One of the local body guys is a real car guy. He is going to remove the fender in my shop, and take it to his for a complete respray of color and clear after a good sanding.

Let me commiserate with you because I know misery loves company.

1.The day I bought my Avanti, a drunk kid sideswiped it as he pulled into the parking space next to my car in our apartment complex...

2. At my first oil change at 15 hundred miles on my new C6, the "technician" let the overhead oil fill gun swing into my fender and take a chunk out of it.

3. Oh, I'm sure there's more..

Congrats on popping its virginity, btw. You can rest easy now.

Thats a real headscratcher! It can't be easy to put a scratch that deep without knowing it.

If it's not dinged you can touch it up with multiple thin layers and buffing it with these flower shaped pads and wait till someone else puts another scratch in it.

Yeah know how wide handycapped parking spotz are? My 300M Special has had a handycap plate on it from day one and been side swipped FOUR TIMEZ AT THE GROCERY STORE...AARRGGGHHHH

Your guy will paint it & you'll never know it happened.

**** happens.

My brother had his truck side swiped several years ago. The pickup was sitting on a city street and something with a door handle had ran down the side of it. Almost like a can opener. The repair required a fender, door skin, and a bedside! Still he did not notice (black truck early in the morning to his credit) it until he got out of the truck! doh!!

I have a Chevy Impala company car that I swear is a magnet for door dings and scratches. I think people go out of their way to do stuff to this car.

I even had a guy walk up to it and toss his pack of cigarettes on the trunk and jump up on it.... He was really surprised when I got out of the car.

We have such a 240 Estate as a DD since 1999, I swear not a single ding at the parking lot with 200 k mls, the shape of the sides with the rub strips at the right widest spot is priceless. Have a habit though as well of selecting the best parking spot when possible.

This car is my girlfriend's dream car, no joke, I spent about three months checking cars to find a decent one from the late model years. If no one runs into it she'll keep it forever. I learned to love it over the years it served us very well.

I got the estimate from the shop yesterday. Good grief. A few hundred just in the stripe kit. New cobra emblem, remove fender, sand, repaint fender, reclear fender, reinstall fender. And then the wife decides she wants a new house. Sometimes I think I have too many irons in the fire. Maybe that's why I drink in the shop and scratch ****.
