I have a running 318 setting in my floor that runs and was thinking of dropping it in the 66 Polara while we rebuild the engine (383) in it.....question is will the 318 drop in without any major problems????

No problem if you change trans, have the brackets for sandwich mounts on the 318, and willing to cut original tape on the wiring harness or run wires back to distributor and kick down linkage may not be able to adjust far enough which will toast trans.........no problem

I should have stated that the running 318 also has a working 727 still hooked up.......I can pull the 383 out and do some checking, and measuring, but I thought it might have been something someone had tried .

Well that changes everything if it has kickdown linkage and engine mount plates for the same style I.e. non spool type the wiring will be only issue if it is a 727 trans you can use same driveshaft

Thats what I needed to hear, thanks, will get right on it.

Oh and the radiator will have the hoses backwards unless the 318 is early 67/68 70 and later are definatly different sides

Also the exhaust won't bolt up but I'm guessing you know that. I think it a good idea to keep it moving because once they come apart its easy to get stalled belive me I know about that

My 71 Polara was a 383/727 car that I bought with no engine or trans. Damn shame that the doofus I bought it from bought this 24,000 mile car just for the engine for his truck, but I digress. Anyway, using the use what ya got theory, it now has a 77 318/727 with mounts from a 318 67 Coronet. Kickdown is the complete setup from a 1983 318 4 barrel van, as that is what I robbed the TQ intake from. Did need to lengthen the wire for the positive side of the coil, used a section from a donor harness and just twisted it onto the factory end and taped well, so that when I go back to a bigblock I will have an uncut harness. Ditto for the electronic conversion, used a donor harness to make a no-splice, plug and play harness. Found some factory holes in the inner fender with the correct spacing for the ECU. At this point, all mods are totally reversible, with no cut wires or drilled holes.
