Hi,
I am looking for lower ball joints for my 1968 Chrysler New Yorker.
It has factory disc brakes and apparently the lower ball joint is different to a drum brake car.
Any help or leads would be great.

@mobileparts also can probably help you with brake pads too as well as rotors. Worth a try.
I don’t think any supplier has the D10(?) pads in stock but I’ve bought my last 2 sets of rotors for the Budd system from Durabrake in their eBay store. Every once in a while the pads will show up here or on eBay. Luckily he’s not asking about brake parts.
 
I saw a set of NOS lower Ball Joints for a disc brake car on Ebay the other day. Cant remember the seller, hopefully not GLNOS.

The only way of finding them, getting them, that i am aware of, is for you to get yours rebuilt.
With you being in Australia, that really puts the long distance factor into play.

The need for "NOS" may put a damper in your search. There are equivalent replacements that will fulfill your need until the "NOS" appear.

Since you need brake work and ball joints, you may want to consider looking for a set of 1973 spindles and converting over to the much less expensive, single piston caliper set up. It would save you the expense and time of shipping things back and fourth to the US. Put all the Budd stuff in a box and save it for posterity. The Budd calipers often need to be sleeved to keep them from leaking, which is another expense and hassle when you don't live in the US.

A set of 1973 spindles usually runs about $300. Rotors are $45 each. Calipers are also around $45, though there seems to be a countrywide shortage of left calipers right now. That may be Covid-19 related and temporary. Pads are $25. NORS lower ball joints pop up on ebay occasionally for less than $100 each.

The rotors fit vans and pickups, so I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy them in Australia and save a bit on shipping.

Three years ago, on the recommendation of a very knowledgeable friend, I did the conversion from the power drums my 68 Sport Fury was born with to 73 power front discs. I can attest that it was fairly simple and easy to do and I love the results. My car is not a show car, I want to be able to drive it anywhere at any time, so I don't worry about NOS, I just worry about quality and reliability. You have a gorgeous car and I can second the recommendation that you consider the 73 power disc setup without reservation!

There are NOS disc brake ball joints out there, built long after the original production. The quality as well as the longevity is chinesium. caveat emptor

There's a guy in Victoria who reconditions Dodge Phoenix ball joints. I was going to send mine to him but I ended up getting a pair from the States. For the life of me I can't remember the company name. I'll keep googling and if I come across it I'll send you the link.
 
Your correct in regards to locating new ones.

I had a couple of those later "NOS" ball joints in the mid to late '80's. One side, can't remember which I had to wait ~ 6-8 months for enough orders to accumulate for a production run. Those joints lasted about 10,000 miles. That's fine for a collector car that's little driven, but this '67 Fury was a daily driver, those ball joints were shot in about a year, and were about the same price as the one Franks old company is selling now. I had another spare pair and elected to not use them and had the originals rebuilt, those lasted until the cars' useful life ended in the mid '90's.

Having had many miles on the Budd brakes and now having the '69 disc brakes, I'd convert in a heartbeat. The newer brakes work, wear better and much less hassle. Not saying they're bad but rebuilt calipers w/ sleeves were very expensive, rotors couldn't be found, pads had to be relined, wore oddly, couldn't find any back then. Let alone the specific ball joints.
 
Unless you are going for a concourse correct Gold level restoration I would go with the newer stuff from MoPar such as the 1973 set up or one of the good conversion kits. If you do, sell the Budd setup to a guy building a completely correct show car since they are rare and worth money in the right situation.
