Ban all "tribute" and/or "clone" cars

Ok, it doesn't matter what you call it I still have problems with the design although the execution looks to be well done.

We’ll start with the nose. If you are doing a Phantom (something the factory could have done but didn’t) you need to look at what presidents have been set. On the 69 they clipped the hood so the nose could sit a little lower that would help here. Also the fenders on a Daytona under the marker lights were built out, these appear to have the original body lines, something Dodge wouldn’t have done had they built this.

Next the hood, I would have stuck with the 73 hood and not try to copy a 69, again Dodge wouldn’t have done this. Likewise with the doors and quarter scoops.

The wing, this is one area they should have copied the originals or even the Superbird. This one looks to flimsy.

The graphics, loose the side stripe.

The shifter is a bit much and I’d have used the 73 dog dish hub caps.

I like the idea of the car, it just could have been much better in its design.

That is not a clone, tribute or phantom it's a 73 charger with a bunch of crap hanging all over it, and yes someone does need to tell the Bienkies to stop building cars nobody cares about or wants. The dodge pu they had at Carlisle was the best thing they have done.

This is one of two things - a "custom" or a "phantom". A custom is built to the builders/owners taste, and is based on a production vehicle. The Batmobile from the TV series is a custom..

Actually the Batmobile is based on a concept car, the Lincoln Futura, I'd still consider it a Custom though.

My understanding is that Dodge used 1970 fenders to get the different, lower, hoodline.

I got the details a little wrong, the Superbird used the Coronet fenders and hood that had the dipped down front already and were still modified.

Well at the very least this thread has brought up some very interesting and unique view points.

Yes, that crap done in poor taste is still crap. Also the manufacture's should take note that just because you add more stuff to a car does not make it more desirable.

ah, that explains it. i was thinking the snout was a little "elevated" compared to what I have seen. thanks.

anyway, it seems this one has gotten a "healthy evaluation" in this thread. for me, i would have liked it better as a '73 Charger without the custom/phantom/clone/tribute treatment. :icon_winkle:

That's correct... Glad I went back to read more of this thread before commenting on that
