My son and I got the tired (and dirty) 904 out of the 69 Fury. I have never built a trans., but I have built many engines. We are doing a Magnum 360 engine build too (but will look exactly like the original 318), so we're going to build the transmission up a little bit. looking forward to it.
Oh yeah... the longest time this trans took to get in reverse so far is 10 seconds.

A couple things.... i know you already know, but ill say it again....clean it thouroughly before you even start tearing it down, and keep it all spotless throughout the process.
If you've never done one, i can strongly recommend that you pick up BOTH Tom Hand's and Carl Monroe's Torqueflite rebiild and modification books... They are both invaluable resources, and great reading materials for any level trans guy. Tom's book in particular has better photos than you'd find in most any similar publication.

Yes get some manuals, some good snap ring pliers, lip seal tool and you will need a tool to compress the clutch springs. If you find bad bushings you will need a tool for that also.

I’m not a fan of the 904 in a heavy car if the engine has much HP. If you are planning to upgrade to the 360 you may want to consider using a 727. I have built 904’s to handle 500 HP but they were not really for daily driving.

BTW I live just south of Jackson Michigan and I have rebuilt many 904 and 727. If you want help I have the experience and special tools needed. I have done this for other FCBO members.

BTW switching from the 318 to 360 will require a weighted torque converter or flex plate.
