Bob's Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway Trip

Thanks for posting, I was planning to go hiking at the Ledges in Western MA., then someone posted a photo of a black bear encounter on this trail, makes you think twice.

They live in the hills right behind me and come up and down the driveway every now and then. Nice to see them but don't go near them if they have cubs or are cubs. Mommas not far away and will attack!

I'm glad you got to make the trip Bob. I've done it end to end a couple of times but usually jump on north of Asheville NC and take it to Front Royal. (My standard route to Carlisle). I've driven it in several different vehicles including a 64 D200 crew cab, twice. A 65 Coronet 500 convertible, twice. three times in Jazebelle, twice towing a pop up camper. My Ram towing Connie the past three years. Maybe the 67 Polara 500 vert next July.

I have been all over this country on secondary roads and parkways and the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline drive are right at the top of the most beautiful drives one can make.

Thanks for the great pictures.

Thanks Will!

That means a lot to me coming from the Master Traveler himself.

That is a beautiful ride for sure. The great people of the Depression Era did a fantastic job creating these parks. It was so relaxing and the enjoying riding in the mountains.

Way to go Bob! Great pics, thanks!

I wanted to make that trip the last few years and health issues kept me away from those roadways. The trip was absolutely soul soothing. No noise at all.....just the sound of nature!

I'll probably do it again this spring!

Not that I'm anything near a professional photographer.....

I did take these pictures with a Nikon D7500.

Just a word to the wise if you are considering making this trip. Make dang sure whatever you are driving is in tip top condition and you have great tires on it. As much fun as it is, there are a lot of curves and elevation exceeds 6000 feet at times.

Safety First!

Spooned new tires on the Triumph and honed my riding skills too!! Great fun on the roads, but treated the tarmac with respect!!
Hope to do the area in the car within the next couple years.

Hey Bob. are you familiar with the east coast of the Chesapeake? I'm thinking of spending a couple of weeks there next summer. Camping and exploring. Looks like a lovely area with lots of history.

There are a couple of routes along the shore of Delaware and Maryland that are pretty scenic.

Ft. McHenry in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore is pretty cool too.

The islands at Chincoteaque, Va and Assateque, Md have wild horses still running around the beaches. The beaches and shoreline through Maryland and Delaware are very nice.
