I haven't been around here for a while. I've been super busy at work and haven't had anytime for the car. This morning I said, car time!!

After finishing the new sound system, I started looking at the trunk. I didn't want to leave it stock looking. It's just to big and plain for my taste. I decided to box it in for a custom look. I took some measurements and picked up project panel tempered hardboard from Home Depot and went to town with my trusty jigsaw. It took three 2'x4' pieces of the hardboard to complete the box in's. I also picked up two rolls of all purpose replacement latex backed carpet in black 36"x72", a can of multipurpose 3M 77 adhesive spray to attach the carpet to the hardboard and two cans of black spray paint to paint the boards to seal them. Total project will be about $70. I should have it finish by next weekend. I plan on putting in a fuel cell after this is done. This is what it looks like so far.

Thanks guys. I thought it came out pretty cool too. One thing I want to do is remove the spare tire mount and also add lights in the side panels maybe even speakers. Not sure yet.

Update...

Small update. Last night I cut out the patterns for the left and right side inner quarter carpet for the wood panels. This morning I sprayed the adhesive on the carpet and panels and let it setup for about 15 minutes or so. The 3M 77 adhesive is really good stuff. After it setup I pulled the carpet just to the sides of the panels (see pictures), then started pulling the carpet down the rest of the way. Came out great. This week I'll start on the other panels and finish it up.

Completed the box ins today. Now I need to vacuum, mount the amp and run the speaker wires so they can't be seen. Pretty happy with the outcome. Looks much better in person, than the pictures.

Thanks guys. I'd like to install a set of interior lights in the side panels. The same ones that are in my car on the console and back. Now I have to find a set!

Looks good. One suggestion. Why not hinge one of those panels to access some additional storage space? I keep my floor jack and a bunch of stuff behind the right wheel well. Seems like you're losing a lot of room there boxing it off.

John, looks great brother! Damn you for giving me more ideas! LOL. Can't wait to see it finished! I agree with Fishfan. you should try to make it where you can store some stuff that you don't normally need behind there as hidden storage. Other than that I really like it and that is a great idea on the hardboard.
