I need to buy a brake booster for my '76 T&C and wondered if there was a better source than the standard Cardone rebuild.

Check the Sacramento craigslist. A guy there advertises rebuilt C-body boosters. He is a mechanic who does Mopar stuff on the side. You can find him on forabodiesonly (fighter jet avatar, forgot the name) and seems a stand-up guy.

You won't get one from Cardone or any other vendor....they haven't had one for a Formal for years and won't have one in the future.

The previous posts info are pretty much the only way to get one rebuilt or get one from a donor car.

When I was looking for one last summer Cardone told me that they could rebuild one for me. I also spoke to someone in CA (possibly Sacramento) who rebuilt them.
Rock Auto had them in stock, but I no longer see them for a 77 New Yorker. My mechanic found one already rebuilt but I don't know where.

I talked to Cardone a few months ago and they said they don't have the parts to rebuild my 78 booster.

BTW, the 77 and 78 Formal boosters are interchangeable. The 74-76 formal boosters are interchangeable. I don't know why the 74-76 won't interchange with the 77-78. Maybe Mr. C knows why. I do know that the boosters are a pain in the *** to change. I found it was a lot easier to remove the front seats to get to the booster. Might be able to do it without removing the seats if you have a tiny wife or a strong 12 year old around.

A FREAKING ROYAL PAIN IN THE ***.
Can't be emphasized enough.

I am bummed, I bought a 77 New Yorker for a parts car and was going to have the booster from that rebuilt for my 76. But if the '77 booster won't work now I will have to have the wagon down during the whole shipping , rebuilding, shipping process.

if anyone knows why the '77 booster won't work I would appreciate your input.

Mr C. probably knows....

He is a regular here.

I'll reach out to Mike (Newp) this weekend. He'll know why...
