So a friend of mine who collects convertibles, brought out his 70 Fury III convertible to the local cruise in last night. This is the first time he's brought the Fury in over a year, so its the first time my camera and his convertible were in the same place at the same time. I know the convertible wasn't offered as a Sport Fury in '70, so I had always thought that only bench seats were available in 70 C body Plymouth convertibles. But his 383 70 Fury III convertible has buckets and console. The interior needs work, and he says Legendary doesn't make the 70 convertible interior, so he is considering the upholstery kit for a 69 Sport Fury convertible. He found this Fury at a yard sale he stopped at. He had to have a new top installed and had to have some body work done. Still, not bad for a yard sale find.
My question is, just how common is the bucket seat and console interior on a 70 Fury III convertible (and 70 Polara convertible as well since I'm asking).

Meanwhile, for anyone who is interested, here are links to four albums of pictures that I've taken at these weekly Saturday evening cruise ins at the Burger King in Manassas, Virginia ( where I took these pictures).

I don't know the answer to your question but I do like the car and the buckets and console make it even better. If there's a fender tag the codes for that interior combo should be on it.

Yeah C55 and C16 are the codes for buckets and console, respectively.

I have seen many 1970 Fury Convertibles with buckets, just a guess but at least 25% of the ones I have seen had bucket seats.

As far as the 1970 Polara convertible is concerned, much, much less. Probably 5% at the most.
He is correct, Legendary does not make them for a 70 but just going to a GOOD upholstery shop he should be able to find someone who can stitch something by hand with very similar vinyl..

Oh, and if I was a Ford guy I'd have a 67 Ford Galaxy 500 convertible like you have pictured, one of my favorite Fords.

A burger king draws that much? Your kidding?

That Fury is awesome! Very nice attendance and great variety of cars.

You're a little late for the 67 Galaxy convertible. My friend Mike usually drives his 67 Charger to the cruise in, so he sold the Galaxie. Another guy who attends with his 68 Charger and 55 Chevy, has lost interest in his 64 Galaxy 2 door hardtop. That one is now for sale if you're interested (and its red too).
The pictures in the four albums are actually from various Saturdays from last year and this year. Album #4 and much of album #3 are all from the last three Saturdays. The cruise in attracts anywhere from 75 to 150 cars depending on the weather and if there are other major events on a particular weekend. This show does bring alot of business to the Burger King, and they have a big parking lot that truckers use for over night parking during the week. In years past, before people started their own Saturday cruise ins in other nearby towns, this show would routinely attract 250 cars (mostly classics, muscle cars, and street rods). Its still the biggest one in northern Virginia for classics, muscle cars and street rods. There is a Saturday morning "cars and coffee" cruise in that attracts more cars, but its mostly exotics and classic European cars.

First off, that would be my second or third choice of Fords but again it would have to be a 64 Galaxy convertible. Just to be clear the third in the top three would be a 1970 Torino GT Convertible. Can you tell I like ragtops?

But its a Burger King.............they draw that much? I still dont believe it.

Something had to give it a boost, or was there to give it a draw.........

o.k. I give up...........:waiting:

Well years ago the cruise in was at a diner in a strip mall, but other businesses that used the parking lot complained. The Manager/owner of the Burger King offered the Burger King parking lot and the move was made to keep the cruise in alive. Keep in mind that if just any parking lot is chosen as a gathering place, it would be considered trespassing or loitering. You actually need a business that has access to the parking lot to provide the venue for the cruise in or show. For the same reason, we have a Friday evening cruise in at a Chik Fil A fast food restaurant. The owner of the restaurant sponsors the show. Pretty much all cruise ins in our area are sponsored or provided the venue, by a restaurant of some kind. It gives the car people a place to gather and it boosts business for the restaurant.

Yeah, I get all that. I just dont see gatherings like that on regular basis around here. It looks like you have a variety of cars too, every week different participants.

Or perhaps I need to get out more.

Sounds like you need to get a couple local car club representatives to approach a suitable restaurant and make the suggestion. Or you could do it yourself. Then its just a matter of letting it spread by word of mouth, passing out flyers at shows, and posting flyers at auto parts stores, repair shops etc. I suggested a Sunday evening cruise in to a diner in a strip mall near me. The Sunday event wouldn't steal business from another cruise in, and the parking lot is emptier on Sundays since some of the businesses are closed that day. The Diner owner is checking into the possibility with the management company of the shopping center. So we may be getting another cruise in spot for Sundays.

Look at all the cruise events coming up on the bottom of the local cruise flyer that I've been posting pictures of. Click on car shows on the left and then scroll down to 2012 car shows.

I don't know if it helps at all but my 70 Newport convertible has the identical interior but my console is all vinyl. Love the two tone green gut .
