I have a problem with my choke unloader on my 67 Fury with a 383 and 1 1/2 BBD. It is only opening 1/8 inch it should be 1/4 inch. The instructions say to bend the tang or lever . The tang or the lever is about 1/8 inch thick metal. How do you bend this without screwing up the carburetor? I tried 2 vice grips but it would not bend.

Agreed, do NOT bend the thick metal, bend the rod going to the lever instead.

At the two bends, the upper one is probably the best place to do it. Use a pair of pliers and a gentle twist of the wrist to do it. Just enough to get to the spec. The rod is of somewhat soft metal, so a little adjustment can be done a few times, but usually once it is adjusted when new, no need to change it.

On the choke pull-off, you can use the same method to adjust it, too. To open, use a flat blade screwdriver in the "V" part of the link. To close it for more opening, widen the pliers adjustment to close-up the "V" a bit.

How did that adjustment get out of what? Just curious.

Take care,

Thanks for the advice I have it adjusted now.
I don't know how it got out of adjustment it was probably that way when I got the car. I found it when trouble shooting my car dying some times when I backed out of my driveway which is all uphill, then put it in drive to go forward with a sharp left turn when it would buck and die (the car is on a passenger side list at that time). When it did that it wouldn't start until later Yesterday My F150 was down for a fuel pump and I had to vote so I trouble shot the not starting, Smelled of gas so I went into clear flood mode and it got worse. Took off the Air cleaner, floored the carb and saw that the choke wasn't opening at all I put a small screw driver between the choke plate and the throttle body and she started right up. today I checked the unloader adjustment. Now I just need to figure out why it is stalling . It doesn't do it when fully warmed up. It also doesn't do it when in town only in my driveway.
