Hello
I am planning to be in the LAX area this january, and wanted to drive my 70 300 conv in the area, plus some trips to San Diego and Death Valley. My fear is that somebody can steal my car. WHat are you guys using as theft deterrant? GPS tracker, kill switch, electrical valve on the fuel line...any hints? Thank you

So you’re shipping the car in or is it a car you keep here?

If your staying in LA, I've stayed at a place with a gated parking court yard near the Hollywood Bowl and the 101. Might be an option, PM if you want the info

All of that stuff will help. I personally like the old school solution to this problem. I pull the rotor from the distributor and stick it in my pocket. How may criminals have one in their pocket?

!: Make sure your insurance is aware of this use and will be covered in a worse case scenario.
2: I would check with a car alarm company for their suggestions.
3: The most basic visual deterrent like a "Club" on the steering wheel may help and show that you have put some thought into this.

What I do with my 78 Chrysler is just pull one of the connectors off the ballast resistor and one off the starter relay on the firewall. I put the wire so it kind of covers the connector or right next to it. The dumbass that is stealing it usually don't want to take the time to open the hood and usually isn't smart enough to troubleshoot any thing electrical. A club would be a good idea for keeping them from destroying the key switch.

Another thing to keep in mind: Try to run about with someone who knows the area. Some parts of L.A. are gang and crime infested **** holes. You need to stay clear of those areas.

I did have a NASCAR style quick change adapter with a removal Grant steering wheel. Grant doesn't make anything that will work with a T&T steering column.

Theft prevention in LA: Lock the 300 in a closed garage and rent another car for touring. Take the 300 out for a cruise when you know you will not be stopping anywhere and leaving it unattended for any length of time.

Compton, and a lot of East LA is a great place to visit if: A) You like being robbed
B) You want your nice car to show up, stripped, south of the border, or sanitized with a new title in somebody else's name
C) You like being shot at from the nearest street corner
D) Drive a nice car there and get all of the above.
