My clock doesn't work, but is to be expected for a 46 year old car! My question is, has anyone ever taken a none working one and got it to run again with a little lubrication? It's the only thing in the dash that doesn't work.

I never have, there are guys that will restore you clock or replace the old mechanism with a modern unit. Of course you could purchase a NOS unit and replace the one you have

If it's the usual Borg movement electromechanical clock, I have read that fogging the mechanism with WD-40 using just the regular aerosol valve and not the directional tube will sometimes free it up and keep it working. Apparently about a 3-second blast of the stuff is all it takes. Might be worth a try.

don't also forget to lightly file the points......I would use electronic cleaner spray and see if it works......I personally know someone that used WD40 inside a power seat switch and it started a electrical fire later when no one was in the car.

That would suck!

Yes it would! I had mine replaced with the quartz movement in my Imp..

I won't be using WD40 on it. I haven't removed it yet, but I'll check it out and see what I can do with it, once it's out. If not l'll see if there is an NOS for sale anywhere. I want the clock to work because I'm funny that way. If its there it should work.

Matt who did you get your quartz movement from? I found a site that will repair or replace with quartz, but prefer to use someone who has been recommended by someone with good feedback.

I remember replacing the one in my great Aunt old 78 T-bird back in the 80's.

I used these guys but my understanding is that you can buy the movement and install it yourself. I had taken my instrument cluster in to these guys to have the printed circuit board fixed so it made sense for me to just have them do the clock while it was there.
a friend did buy one on ebay for his Charger and the one that came was for a Vette or some **** so last I knew he returned the wrong one and his clock still doesn't work....
I believe in hiring things done by those that specialize in it if it's something that falls outside my wheelhouse, I don't have time for B.S.!

I was under the impression that the clocks died from having a battery slowly die in the car. Once the battery reached a certain point the rewinding motor in the clock would brown out and eventually die.

I sent my speedometer out of my 71 to this guy last year and it works perfect. This car sat in a garage in Ohio from 74 - 03. Last year the speedometer started making a weird noise and the needle would bounce all over.
