Column to floor shift conversion

OK I have a 65 fury 3 it had the good ole cable shift and when I got it it needed a different trans
I picked up a 74 727 to put in it now im trying to figure out the easiest way to swap it over to a floor shift.

Any help or any 1 know of kits available pls share your knowledge

Lots of trouble there. Your 65' is designed for a cable shift. The trans you have is an excellent unit. Rebuild it and move on.

The 65 shifter and console for a cable shift trans is different then the shifter and console that will work with your 74 727. The OEM look will be tough to obtain.
If you just want a floor shift then something can be cobbled together, i'm sure. No "kit" that I know of.

Absolutely. Try to find that floor console that has the cable attached to the shift lever. 65 was a bad year, as it was transitioning from the 64'pushbutton to the 66' lever shift setup.

I wouldn't call 65 a "bad" year ...... LOL. It was just a time of transition.

If "Rathmor" is serious about a floor shift conversion he needs to concider rebuilding his original cable shift 727

I cant rebuild the old trans. The previous owner took out the original 318 n dropped In a 383 n from there they couldnt make it work. So I got it looked n saw what was going on n tracked down a new trans that would fit the big block.

If your going for a OE look source out a 66 shifter and linkage or later, It would be easier to use because your trans is set up for the linkage not the 65 cable

The issue with that, is the correct 65 console is completely different then a 66 console.

With a little searching and well placed "wanted" ads you should be able to locate a big block cable shift trans.

Imperial Services does offer 2 conversion cables that will let you use the 65 column shift or console shift with a 68 and up trans. I haven't used one but they generally make very nice stuff. Kind of spendy. Like $425. I think they realize you either have to find a cable shift 727 core , buy their cable, or "make" something work. I rebuilt my 65 trans but if I had it to do over I would have converted to a 65 floor shift and used their cable.
