My GTO was “invited” to the Concourse d’elegance at Meadowbrook years ago. The first time they allowed muscle cars and it was just a small circle of six cars. They invited two of our cars but we showed a Shelby Mustang GT500. The Meadowbrook faithful pretty much ignored the muscle cars. E bodies weren’t going for the same dollars as the Packards and Caddys yet.
It’s an honor I guess but a really stuffy crowd dressed like Jay Gatsby.
I kinda thought it was a fun family event. Dave and I and all the other "muscle cars" were parked near a row of "funny" cars, which all started their engines at the same time,....the smell the Nitro Methane was in the air.....that was really neat and the "gallery" aka crowd really enjoyed that. Being able to see some of the rarest cars in the world and meet their owners was a pleasure too.
It's a Concours d'Elegance after all,...not a burger joint cruise in,...and since I like cars in general....I appreciate both venues.
My point in driving 4,000 miles to show the car was to have people that have never heard or seen a Chrysler 300 or a Hurst Chrysler be exposed to that part of motoring history, the cars were well received. Mission accomplished.
I also was able to meet the designers of the Challenger, Hellcat, and Chrysler styling executives, and I was impressed by how much they respected and understood "the fuselage design concept" and how that is incorporated into almost every vehicle today,....so it was worth attending.
I met owners of their cars that had as much passion and love for their machines as I do, irrespective of make or model, and I appreciate other peoples passion.
I recommend anyone go; if you like classic cars.
