I took my 68 Fury III in for an alignment. The mechanic said the car needs new bushings before he can do the job. How much should that cost? This shop has a reputation for good work, but I have heard that they can be very expensive.

If you're tearing everything apart for the bushings, it would be a waste not to do both sides, upper and lower, and the ball joints. I'd say 12 hundred bucks? Anyone else?

That's the sense I'm getting as I look at doing the same thing on my '68 Fury III. Side note... my mechanic has been advising me not to do it right now, saying it's a big enough job that he's worried it'll cut too far into the budget for the basic "plugging holes" kind of work that needs to be done after sitting for most of the last two decades (new gas tank, new radiator, brake rebuild, carb rebuild, etc.)

That chunk of change is hard for anyone to swallow. It hurts both putting it off and doing it. You hope there's a reward afterwards.

Ugh. I just wanted an alignment. Now major surgery. I think the car is going back to my garage for a while.

You'll want to do the upper/lower cntrl arm bushings (and the rest) the moment you get out on the road and it feels like your car is riding on oatmeal. Gotta do it sooner or later if you want to enjoy it.

At least you had an honest alignment guy. Lots of these so-called alignment guys don't know enough to do the job right, at least around here. Your Fury is a great car, and I look at it as a great Investment.
