I get a little carried away at time with the little details. Am cleaning up my throttle pedal which had a light coat of rust. Cleaning it up carefully I cannot find any trace of paint. I have found that many parts under the dash are in painted, and were probably just run through a bath to get a zinc phosphate coating to prevent flash rust.
Any one out there with an untouched example of how it is detailed? I would assume that it is similar for most 67/68 c-bodies. Here’s mine cleaned up with a zinc phosphate coating. Any examples welcome.

Just asking if the original mechanical pedal linkage was bare metal or painted. If I am spending the effort and time to clean it up I want to do it right. I don’t do half assed.

I do tend to get carried away but I enjoy the challenge making used look new. Plus it helps me relax and clear my mind.

There are some great paints out there that closely match unpainted steel. A light coat of that would not hurt.

Or a coat of self etching primer and then the unpainted steel paint.

I ended up using Eastwood Fast Etch. It leaves a zinc Phosphate coating. Then a couple coats of bare metal satin clear coat.

Your restoration is making me twitch with envy. I tend to get the same way when restoring something. .. retouching the flats on factory nuts and stuff like that.

That's impressive, and for a piece you hardly even notice. I don't know if I'll ever need to detail anything to that level, but you've made me wonder if I took this off my parts car, cause you can never have too many parts for your car, right?
