Can you interchange a 742 case with a 489 case. Want to switch to sure grip and possibly 3.23 or 3.55 not sure which but looking to buy a whole pumpkin ready to go.

Everything will interchange, but the driveshaft flange width may be different. They have adapter U-Joints if this happens.

A 2070742 case uses a large pinion shaft - a 2881489 case uses a tapered pinion shaft.

I may be wrong, but I do not think they are interchangeable.

He is changing the entire pumpkin. The pinions won't interchange, but that's not what he is doing.

I think they are 2.76, I need to find a a replacement then maybe I will sell.

I was thinking of doing the same. Why is the 742 so much more expensive and less avaiable? I also want to put some lower gears. My 742 I think is 2.7s with nly 52k miles on them.

Who knows? I probably have a hundred of them.

The 742 is the most desirable case. The gears are very easy to find........ There everywhere.

I think I am just going to buy a complete done 742 with 3.23s since the 742 came in it. I have a 645ci trying to sell (title in hand) so that will free up funds for th 300 :)
