Get the Hella's. Then you will appreciate your night driving more.
Some people don't get it. Hacking wires ,adding relays not needed when the market already has something out there to plug and play.
Tip: Get the headlights aimed. Well worth the headache after investing on the harness and housings.

So, I got one of these harnesses from cbarge at Carlisle last year. I just finally put it in today. I guess late is better than never. Anyway it goes in rather straight forwardly.i would recommend that if your grill is in place you have a set of these around to help your progress.

This pair just happens to belong to my 7 year old Nathanael.

Finally got my hella low H4 beams installed, the difference is omg no more two spot lights in the road just a nice flood of light

timely post. I was just thinking about this. When I was driving after dark the other night. Lights are aimed, but pretty distinct beams.
@cbarge, which of the four kits do I want for my ‘68? That have the correct plugs. I am not recognizing the numbers. There seem to be 4 different kits to choose from. Thanks
I want to start with my sealed beam Halogens, but may eventually convert.

I used a kit provided by cracked back on moparts, was tailored to my car and worked great (I think). Haven't had much opportunity to drive after dark since it was done.

Putco-230004HW for H4 lighting 2 lamp harness. works even with 4 lamp system.
Even with the old incandescant sealed beams the light will be brighter and no more dimming at idle.
 
You must have needed to do some rewiring to get the two light wiring to work on the 4 light system. I will need to take the dual wires out of the left plug and put them to the back of the new female plug.
Regardless with any kit you would have to do this. The first plug of the standard system is made so the power will go to the next bulb whether they are burnt out or are unplugged.

This plug connects to the left 3 prong low hi beam plug.

It is first power in the parallel system. The issue is since the original plug is connected in parallel with the hi beams, the other 3 lights will still be fed off original power through the Light switch.

I will need to separate these wires in the original plug.

And install them in the back side of this new plug to feed the other 3 lights.

Their Taiwan instructions on the back don’t take the parallel system into consideration. It looks like I will only use a couple of the connectors and relays and re-wire the whole system. I hope I have some spare terminal connectors. I needed a project for this weekend anyway.

Interesting.
I never had any issues with the harness using as is.
I can hear both relays click when switching from low to highbeam and back.
I had one relay short out a long time ago where the inboard high beams came on but outboard bulbs went out. New relay fixed that.
I agree the instructions can be vague.
I will watch this thread on how you made the modifications.
Putco did offer a 4 lamp harness at one time or another.

I have it mostly back together now.
First step would have been to have some spare 3/8 female locking terminals around. It is a real ***** to remove and re use terminals. I have a couple of local places to check Monday. I got them out with a straight seal pick or awl and pushing the he terminals against a wood block. Don’t hold in your hand. The seal picks are sharp.
Here is the setup. I still have to install the ground, but wanted to wait until I find some replacement terminals. Also need to route and wrap the wires.
Temp power. I will hook to starter relay terminals.

I wanted all the plugs on the headlights to match so since I had the wires out. I changed it so the white connector in the kit used my signal wires (from light switch). And re wired my black switch so that it plugged back into my head light.

Relay power out is feeding my left high/low beam headlight with the other lights hooked in parallel like before. One relay feeds the low beams and other feed the high beam.

Also removed the extra pig tail of the kit. It replaces wiring on a two light kit, but since I would have needed to tap into it to feed my right side hi beams. I got rid of it. I was already hooked to them via the photo above.

Now measurable results. When I first hooked the kit up per the instructions, my Left Hi low beam was very bright while my others were yellowish. This is what let me know something wasn’t right.
Before with standard power, highlow and high beam. Ok

Now to clean up and make it disappear.

If I find the right connectors on Monday, I am going to get rid of the jumper plug and go directly to and from the relays, so the system is totally integrated into my harness. I even changed the power plugs from the fusible links (provided)to a more period correct black plug for each. Here is the schematic. Sorry for my chicken scratch. Will post pictures of my before and after later. You will really have to look for it when I am finished.

I am interested in doing this mod to Maggie's 69 Fury since i have the harness and H4 Hella's waiting to get installed.
Any chance to have a bigger or better pic?

I will take some more pictures of the actual install when I get terminals. Here is what I have so far.
pulled my harness back so I can do some taping with the original black stretch tape/wrap.
The harness was operational at this point but wanted to clean up the routing. Get rid of the bright yellow covers. Also the extra plug connector is going. I am integrating it into the harness just like the schematic. To be fair I could have used the kit with small modifications, I am a stickler for making it look original.

Harness pulled back. Only takes a couple of minutes. Now I can access the wires and re tape. I got rid of the yellow sheath and can actually make most of that harness go away by connecting the wires directly into the relay connector. Really only using the guessable links and relays at this point.
