Does anyone know where I might can get a dip stick for my 300, it was also missing. Wrecking yards wont sell just dip stick. I can see there point. What is the correct length? 1968 with 727 torgueflight. Also, I cant put gas in my tank yet, but almost ready to try starting the 440. How unsafe might it be to run a fuel hose to a 5 gallon can and try starting. Anyone done this before, would it be safe?

Hook up the rubber gas line from the fuel can to the inlet of the fuel pump on the engine, keep the full 5 gallon gas tank a couple of feet from the front wheel. that's my $.02

Took a photo of my dip stick for you for your search. Add line is at
2 1/16 inches and full is at 2 3/4 inches from the tip. Hope this helps. Jim

Sometimes $.02 is all I need! I appreciate it.

Sometimes when it's been a while since your car has been run, it's nice to be able to bypass all of the duel delivery including the fuel pump. An electric fuel pump is fairly cheap. Or, if you want to get real redneck, I have run them using gravity. Having spent a lot of my life working on motorcycles mostly without fuel pumps, it seemed logical to me when working on fuel delivery for vehicles to just put that gas can on a high shelf and start a little siphon action. While you won't likely have the flow of a fuel pump, it's generally enough to see if the thing will fire.

The fuel pump was changed, thought about taking out all the spark plugs and coil wire and let it turn over several cycles, also to ck oil circulation. It has sat several yrs.

The answer is...... Jay Leno.

So, yea, it can be done (I've done it), but be very careful.

Yes sir the trans stock is the one missing.
The dip stick and tube have to match.... In other words, the length of the new dip stick needs to be correct and not just anything. It might be good to figure out the part number of the dip stick and search with that part number. If you need a parts manual, go to MyMopar

Yeah! Thanks, last thing I want to do is set myself and the car on FIRE!

OP: I have several original dipsticks in the parts collection. I will be able to go through them over the Thanksgiving holiday if you can wait that long. To confirm you are looking for 383 engine and not for the 727 T correct? I have both (I think). All the best, Retroman.

Murray Park may be another source
Omni

Hey Retroman, I have a 68 300, has 440 motor with 727 torgueflight. I need the trans dipstick. If you have one let me know when you can. Thanks.

As to the "fuel supply", you can go "upgraded redneck" and get a fuel container for an outboard boat motor at one of the sporting goods places. That way, it's all contained with diminished possibility of spills and such. Some even come with a small hand pump to get things started. Used to be about $15.00 or so, plus taxes.

sorry , didn’t get back out in the garage to take a picture of the trans dip stick until today, the lower measurement reads add 1 pint at 1 1/4 inches from the tip, full at 1 7/8 inches from the tip.
The body of the dip stick reads: Check when hot-idling in neutral.
This is because the trans fluid is not circulated in park.

Thanks for the good clear pics! I didnt know it was going to be so hard to find a dipstick. I would have thought c-bodies up to like 1978 with big block and torgue flight wouldnt such a problem!!

Carguy300: These match the one from our 66 Newport 727. Your choice with tube $60. They all measure the same. All the best Retroman
