So I'm in need of a driveshaft for my 1967 Newport Sedan. I already got received a quote from a driveline shop and while it was a lot better than I expected, if I could find a used one for the cheaps I'd sleep better at night. My question is what years and models of cars can I use the driveshaft from? Or do I have to find another 1967 Newport Sedan to take it from? Any insight is appreciated

From my experience, a good driveline shop can fabricate, install and balance a drive shaft so cheaply its probably not worth trying to find used. Remember to add the cost of new u-joints to a used shaft and the margin narrows. Most junk yards today use fork trucks to move the cars around and bend the driveshaft every time. Most of all an imbalanced drive shaft can shake your fillings loose... one easy trip, a smallish bill and all that drama avoided.

So why not call Murray Park? Tell him what you have, have him ship it. Once received take it to the local guy for balancing

Given the history of most of the parts- a driveshaft IMO should be made new for you. Plenty of local truck repair palces, and availble vendors can do that if you measure properly and it will be far better balanced than the factory ever was.

What would you consider a fair price for a new driveshaft? Like I said, I don't think the price he gave me was by any means unreasonable but if theres any chance to shop around and get a better deal I'd like to try

the last time I sent someone was a former apprentice, he had a chopped up bronco2 with a v8 conversion and had been trying to get a clean weld in the middle of the shaft by cut splicing the 2 original shafts... his was under 200 plus towing...but... that was more than 10 years ago and he had a professional discount.

I had 1 made a month ago it was $253 out the door but i had the trans slip yoke and they supplied the u joints. It was a PIA trying too find a used one locally
