Has anyone installed an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold in a 1969 Fury with a 440 and it fits under the hood?
Have a 440 stroker being made and am trying to figure out if anyone with a 69 has done this successfully. Thanks.

i have a performer rpm w eddy avs 2 on my 70 440 TNT 300, has stock dual snorkel air filter, no probs with clearance

Edelbrock's website used to have the dims on their different manifolds on the appropriate page, don't know if they still do or not? You should check it out. Good Luck

this is my 67 300 440 with a high rise alum eddy and a carter afb , mopar performance aircleaner . and this twin four holleys fit my 383 just under the hood of my 65 880 , would smash the hood padding .

Well I wadded up a loose ball of aluminum foil and set it on top of my present 440 with dual snorkel air cleaner I plan to use. I closed the hood ,opened it and measured the thickness of the aluminum with a caliper. I got 1.75 inches ,the distance from the air cleaner to the bottom of the hood. The edelbrock site lists the rpm intake as 1.75 inches higher than the stock manifold. If I got a drop base plate for my air cleaner it would drop it by one inch. Is one inch clearance or less with new motor mounts be enough? Or did I do my math wrong?

My hood keeps my air cleaner in place when closed, so 1.75" is like a mile in my world. I'd think an inch would be plenty.

Thanks for the reassurance , I would think an inch should do it. I was just wondering under load if the air cleaner will hit. Well I may chance it and get one when the time comes with the 800 cfm avs2 carb.

it hard to get a drop base air cleaner for a carter afb or avs , those are holley designed type drops . i did one a a chevelle i reworked for a friend , i ended up placing a spacer on top the eddy afb , to get the pump to clear the base of that drop base air cleaner .

My Charger was less than a inch, but did not rattle against the hood. I had to use a bolt to hold it down (stud and wing nut would have hit)
Now with the TQ I switched to and the adapter for the spreadbore it hits. I am going to modify the intake to allow it to mount directly this winter.

I put the Performer RPM on 440 with AVS@ in 1970 Fury, 1970 dual snorkel, bottom of hood lightly hits to of pie tin. Zero inches clearance. Bad choice on my part. What did you do @Turboomni ?

That's using every available inch of space. My air cleaner is held on by the hood in my Polara, cheap chrome one I don't worry about.

Hi Scott
Don't you get a rattle?
Scratches on the bottom of the hood?
What does cheap.chroke mean?
Thanks, Ben

Ben, I didn't double check my spelling! I have a chrome unit I got with the car. It's right up against the hood, and the car is scruffy, so paint isn't a concern. Not sure about rattles, I've never noticed any. Air cleaner stays in place, and doesn't spin, I don't even have a hold down rod on the carb. Ghetto, but it's worked for fifteen years.

I went with after much deliberation on my engine build which includes being able to use my stock dual snorkel air cleaner ,to a Holley street Dominator single plane intake on my 505 build topped off with a Edelbrock 800 cfm avs2. I had also gone to FBBO as my engine designer frequents there and between all the hoopla we all seemed to agree the Dominator even though a single plane would be best. I will say my engine designer said in a perfect world he would prefer the RPM. But because of my hood limitation he would bless the Dominator. In my situation, tune he said the difference would be minimal. Edelbrock states the RPM dual plane is 1.75 inches higher than stock. Here is a pick of the single plane street Dominator with web removed. I will paint it all turquoise. From what I have read all stock bosses are there like a stock intake.

HA.HA. I get it. **** butterfly nuts.
OTOH, I'm going for presentation on opening hood, so our goals are different.

When I used to have my hood open, plenty of people looked at the chaos that is in the engine compartment. My harness, or lack thereof, was always popular for inspection. It got more attention than the Hemi clone I was parked next to, I was very surprised.

I started going the stock route on my Polara 500, and will on my Monacos.

Thanks, Turbo. (Cousin It)
I went with same carb, 440 no stroke 9.2:1 compression, but I want to stay dual plane, dual snorkel. Looks like I need to go with 2191 to avoid destroying my hood paint.
Do you (or anyone) know of a quality EGR block off plate to fit the Edelbrock 2191? Don't see one on Ede site.

Sure I understand. Actually I am following MEV and FURYGT especially as they are running strokers. I am not blazing any kind of trail at all. From my understanding in my case torque from my 505 down low will not be a problem even with the single plane Dominator compared to a dual plane. A 440 it may come into play more so. What rear ratio you going to run?

3:55 8.75 gear Street car, big convertible with lots of power is the goal. No racing intended.
So Turbo: what rear are you running?

@cbarge Did you have to make a EGR block off plate for the Edelbrock 2191 or can you buy something that looks nice somewhere? I'm having your problem with Ede Performer RPM. bottom of 1970 Fury hood just touches top of Dual Snorkel at pie tin when I close hood. Zero clearance, playdo test. Gotta go to Performer. Thanks, Ben
