Edelbrock Performer RPM to 69 Fury?

I hope it will approach what MEV is doing. I do like bombing down the highway from time to time. That is really what these cars were meant for. Some trivia,MEV's car weights in at over 4700 lbs. That's alot of metal booty to push down a 1/4 mile.

My 70 Newport has a similar set up. 493 with RPM & 800 Edel. Drop plate won’t work because of choke housing. So yeah, my 2” filter is held down by the hood. BTW, VERY interesting about the Dominator as I have 3.73 gear; makes me think.

In theory it should work [the Dominator for hood clearance] I will let you know for sure. There is a drop plate I could go for that FuryGT informed me of . I will try and get a link. You can use a stock air cleaner with a Mancini drop plate. Air will come in under the air cleaner as well as the snorkels too and lower it an inch I believe. I do not know if it will work for an Edelbrock though ,but remember Furygt was /is a fan of Edelbrocks so that maybe true. I will try to dig it up.

Here is the link FURYGT gave me as an option and it states will work with an Edelbrock. 1 inch drop.

"Provides approximately one inch of additional clearance between the air cleaner and hood. This drop baseplate fits all 13-inch diameter air cleaner assemblies and is designed for installation on Holley, Edelbrock or Carter carburetors with a 5.125" diameter neck."

Mancini Racing "Low Pro" Air Cleaner Baseplate

im running a edelbroc victor efi manifold on a 505 bbm. using a drop base air cleaner with mancini racing silenced air cleaner. rubs on the hood pad some but no contact with the hood.

its the pro-flo 4 system, ecu controls advance. set base timing, after that all adjustments are made through the tuning software.

What's the difference between the stock Victor and the EFI version? Yes, I'm too lazy to look it up myself.

Does it take care of the part throttle lots of advance like a vacuum advance would or is that something that you would need to be familiar with in order to build a timing map/curve in program. Just curious because you never hear anyone mention it on TV shows, ads, etc..
Sorry for jumping on the vacuum advance without reading. Just when you see a MSD dizzy on there.....

yes it has adjustable parameters for how many degrees of vacuum advance, rpm advance start, total spark, and total spark rpm. also has option for boost retard. the base map in the ecu is pretty good, requires some teeking, but its not like you have to write a entire fuel and spark map just to get the car running.

I went with after much deliberation on my engine build which includes being able to use my stock dual snorkel air cleaner ,to a Holley street Dominator single plane intake on my 505 build topped off with a Edelbrock 800 cfm avs2. I had also gone to FBBO as my engine designer frequents there and between all the hoopla we all seemed to agree the Dominator even though a single plane would be best. I will say my engine designer said in a perfect world he would prefer the RPM. But because of my hood limitation he would bless the Dominator. In my situation, tune he said the difference would be minimal. Edelbrock states the RPM dual plane is 1.75 inches higher than stock. Here is a pick of the single plane street Dominator with web removed. I will paint it all turquoise. From what I have read all stock bosses are there like a stock intake.

Hi Turbo
2 Questions
  • Do we know how much higher than stock the Holley Dominator is? 1.75" higher is zero clearance on 70 Fury.
  • I don't understand how a stock dual snorkel air clear can take a drop base plate. I thought the air cleaner housing was 1-piece except the lid. My 1970 certainly is. Am I missing something about how dual snorkel air cleaner housings are put together? Are 1969 housings different?
Thanks, Ben
1970 Pictures for reference. I can't even find a welded seam. It seems 1-piece.

Your air cleaner won't work with the drop base. Earlier dual snorkel air cleaners have the snorkels on top that can be removed from the base or just the opposite as yours. I hope someone chimes in with a pic of the earlier style air cleaners to show you. I will have a look and see if I have one.

Not mine but something like this. Furygt has a very clever way to make it work . The Mancini lowered baseplate is about the size of the inner circle of the pictured base plate. It is big enough to support the stock air filter. It actually opens up a lot more area for incoming air and looks stock. I am not sure I need one yet. I may do it anyway.

I'm going factory intake for now.
Edelbrock 2191
Dislikes
  • Spreadbore configuration
  • Thin carb mounting surface
  • Ugly EGR mount that needs to be plugged, although plugs come with intake

Factory: LOVE the 1970 factory look, cast# 2951736
  • Dual Snorkel will sit at factory height
  • Date matching
  • Sides have less than .04" warp: arrow straight
  • Bead Blasted
  • Heavy, but who cares?
  • FABO: guys says factory flows better up to 3200 rpm, Hmmmm. Not bad on street car.
  • Dave, Davealux says I will loose 10 HP, but that's top end on a street car.
  • $220 shipped from Parkville MD
  • Just too tempting not to give it a shot!
