Engine number Help

Hello,
I need some help. I just pulled my engine on my 65 Polara and I'm getting some confusing numbers. Maybe y'all can help. I know that its not the original engine because it had an AC Compressor on it and my car didn't have AC.

Here are the numbers.

B383 66 motor? I thought that a 66 motor wouldn't work in a 65 car. Everything was bolted up correctly...
12-222 I'm guessing date but am confused about the three 2's
Then the other side had an L. ( I guess it would be a low compression motor right?)

Can you post a pic?

B383 is a '66 model year engine.

First, check the tag to see what came with the car and then check to see if they used Schumacher mounts.

It's definitely a correct 65 mount. I can't really tell, but I don't see the two bolt heads on the front of the driver side mount into the block.

No front bolts and a later bracket Micky Moused to fit.
Definitely some one swapped in a later block.
The 65 mount looks like this.

What is the casting date on the side of the block.

22= 22nd
2= second shift

That is positively the correct bracket for a 65 B/RB.

No front bolts and a later bracket Micky Moused to fit. Engine wrong color also.
Definitely some one swapped in a later block.
The 65 mount looks like this.

My mount has two bolts on the front.

So the color should be orange? Any specific color?

Your block should be turquoise.

The other side says 11-28-65.

I guess it's stamped both. 65 and 66

11-28-65 would have been destined for a 66 model year since 65s hadn't been produced for at least 4 months by then , so the B on the pad is correct for the 66 block. This block was cast almost a year after the car was built. A replacement at some point for your car. Does your block have the two mounting bosses on the front for the two bolts?

No, yes, and maybe. I see the bosses but it looks like they didn't drill the hole, the top one anyway.
