1970 440TNT, 110K miles. What's the average cost of having a shop rebuild it? Going for a restoration. Not going to race it.

You can close the thread so no one else can post to it.

It depends on what it needs. If the cylinders aren't worn to the point that it needs to be bored for oversized Pistons it will be less expensive. The 440 in my Imp didn't need a complete rebuild at 140K miles so I just did the heads and a new valvetrain. Hell it didn't even need a timing chain, the original was just fine, plastic teeth and all! I should have just put valve seals on and replaced the fuel pump pushrod and called it a day.

Are you sure it's not just 40K?
Yes. Besides the hole warn to through the carpet in front of the gas pedal when I got it there's a note in the glove box owners manual stating that it turned 100K on June 16 of '84.

With only 110k you may not need a rebuild. Do a leak down test if it is still together that will tell you.

These cars typical back in the day needed head work about 100k but the bottom would go much further.

Are you serious Matt......? You took the engine down and reinstalled the plastic timing gear set....... ? Those are the weakest link in any engine.
When I got the Admiral it had 72K on it. One of the first things I did was a new STEEL double cog timing set. Car was running great but based on past experience I did it. WHEN the cam gear sheds it's teeth they go straight to the bottom of the pan.

Of course I replaced it Will but I did keep it!

Cost anywhere from $300 to $5-6K. All depends on the condition, and the desired results. FOr a complete & correct, dyno'd, ready to drop in restored 440, I'd expect it to be around $5K. For more performance, add more cash.
