I know this neighborhood, predominantly in the older part of Stevenson Ranch in Santa Clarita CA.
The school where the kids were picked up is actually a church several miles away.
The store is about 10 miles away, they chose to use a newer store and not the one that was right next to the shooting neighborhood.

About 17 years ago, a friend built a really scary-fast '92 GMC Astro van. Stuck a stoker 350 (383) in where a little 4.1L V6 was originally...Kept an automatic in it, along with a four-link rear and a Ford 9" with 3.90 gears. Four-wheel disc brakes, too. The exterior looked bone-stock. He did install a roll cage after a short time, when he figured out it got a little tippy in the corners! He ended up getting stationed in Colorado in 2000. Don't know what happened to him or that Astro van after he moved.
