and so actually, my problem was two fold, which was very difficult to understand immediately. The connector with its frayed wires and melted insulation AND the starter. Now that the car is back up and running, I try to see what happened with the starter. Thanks to all who advised, much appreciated. Special recognition to Big_John.

That's a good way to put it. Helps with the frustration, esp. when seeing other people with the cars tooling around on nice days. THAT's very frustrating

Not sure what you mean exactly but I've probably seen almost every Sherlock Holmes movie ever made to include the incredibly good Jeremy Brett in the mid 80's British Television series http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0107950/
